This really affects not only my quality of life but fitness. I fear going for a walk because within half an hour, even less, the pain will start radiating down my leg. Ive got a realted Spondy (Spondylolisthesis) but its only grade 1. My discs have degenerated severely. I think my spine is shrinking as those disks wear out. im 61. I am 105 kg so losing weight would be a good idea. Any other ideas? Physical therapy and Osteopathy both failed.

I had three back surgeries in 2010. I suffer from pretty much the same thing as you. I was on pain pills for awhile, but felt myself becoming addicted, so I quit them. I also did facet blocks, which are injections of cortisone into the facets, which does give me some relief. Now, I just soak in a Jacuzzi and that seems to work the best. You may want to go to a health club and give it a try before purchasing one.

I have it, with accompanying arthritis. I'm older [70] & [19 lbs] heavier and am as well trying to drop some weight ...[40lbs] so far. I get temporary relief [very temporary] from indomethacin & Tylenol . At my neck, and low back sometimes heat helps. I really do not think there truly is any relief.

In my knees / hips, and one shoulder....joint replacement is what they [docs] keep pitching. For several reasons ... I just do not want a possible five surgeries.

18 months ago I even went for stem-cell treatments ... high hopes & big money .... nothing!

Do you do any traction exercises or use a traction machine by the way?

I tried inversion, it helped for sometime, until.....my hip got so bad I couldn't stand the pain,so i gave it up. Still have the table.

I also tried acupuncture , which helped but was damn expensive. At that time $65 p/treatment , 3-4 times p/week. Then my acupuncturist relocated to St.Louis....

I have stenosis in my spine and neck but not the exact same diagnosis as you. This was diagnosed more than 10 years ago so I don't know my current status of my spine. I can only go for a short walk before some discomfort sets in and some days are better than others. I have found having a real good rest on my couch helps me a lot. When I wake up all my bones are a crackin and feeling somewhat better! I have also had steroid injections and that helped a whole lot!

i think an inversion table would be good to try.

Yeah, like I said it really did help my back & neck....I did almost full inversion..[roughly 60/70 degrees] , I worked up to about 5-8 minutes, and did it 4-7 days p/week. Sometimes twice p/day. The company I bought from {Teeter} recommends that frequency is more important than time or degree of inversion. It really depended on how my hip felt. And then like I said, my hip got to hurting just too bad. I did the mild neck exercises once inverted. Nothing crazy, just mild movements/rotations. Same with low back rotations/lateral raises. The human head weighs roughly 17 pounds...when that weight is off the cervical spine it moves differently, more easily, and the result is felt. Keep in mind that inversion does cause the heartbeat to slow, and in most folks it can raise B/P.

If I may advise?.....Read up on it first, be sure it sounds right for you.

The arthritis from the surgery is what bothers me the most now. Not much anyone can do for that. I did find that Advil Gel-Caps do pretty good for short term relief. I still like soaking in the Jacuzzi. I belong to LA Fitness. It's a little pricey, but you do get to use the PT for no extra charge as long as you make an appointment with him or her. Of course, if you have Silver Sneakers, it's free membership. Unfortunately for me, I don't.

I also have an unusual amount of scar tissue, or so that's what the surgeon said. He thinks my sciatic nerve knitted itself to the scar tissue and nobody wants to touch it or even get involved with it.
