Anyone here try an Instant Pot (Pressure Cooker appliance thing)?

Should have probably asked on here first but I will ask now as he is still undecided on a couple things. Just bought one for my grandpa for his 96th B-day.... (I am aware most of you aren't this old LOL).

Wondering how you like it and a senior's persepctive on it as far as ease of use and what you like and don't like, what size unit you like (e.g., "standard" 6 qt size vs the "mini" 3 qt size) etc.

Gramps is generally is only cooking for himself. Sometimes 1 other person if I come over or whatever.
And thinks the 6-qt unit might be a little too big.

But, I try to remind him also that most recipes (4-6 servings) would require the 6 qt model, and after getting enough fluid in there and space allowed, it fills amazing how quick it gets filled up! Plus any awkward shapes of meat (esp if frozen) I would think would be easier to work with having the larger (standard 6qt) size pot. If he cooks from scratch, he makes the regular batch size recipe. He also has a std. size fridge, std. size oven, etc. so I feel like reg. size instant pot not that unreasonable?

Then again, he is 96 yrs old and not a real big guy so I guess it is sort of a bulky appliance to move around so in this way maybe 3 qt would be better? (Personally to me it doesn't look much smaller and for me - and I am fine with leaving mine on the countertop). Grandpa has LOTS of counterspace really. Anyone out there using 3 qt and loving it?

Lastly - if anyone has recipes they would like to share I would certainly love that! You know, good classic comfort foods, a lot of recipes out there today are maybe a little too new-agey and then have 3 pages of crap to scroll through before getting to the recipe LOL.

Or is this all silly, is there like no way a 96 yr old will use a InstantPot? Did you get one and LOVE IT? or hate it? Just curious what others opinions and experiences are!

We have a T - Fal Cook -4- Me which is a pressurized cooker. It can cook straight from frozen with absolute perfection.

Is an instant pot the same as a pressure cooker? If so, why the name change? I'm so confused...

Instant Pot is a brand name of "automated" pressure cooker. It's the most popular brand of this type of appliance. There are other brands too but this is the main one.

It does the same thing as a pressure cooker (and much more) but does so more safely/convenience/less oversight.

Imagine something you could plug in and use as a frying pan, a crock pot, a pressure cooker and a slow cooker, but not have to only have one thing to have to clean and store.

And unlike your traditional pressure cooker - you don't have to babysit it on the stove, you just set it and forget it. If you want to go do a project in another room, you can walk a way and come back only when you're hungry. A traditional pressure cooker would turn into a bomb if you did this. The food will come out of your instant pot ready to eat once the timer is up, it will automatically kick into "warming" mode, no extra worries added.

I have one and love it. So does my mother. Talked to grandpa today, didn't even ask, and he said, "oh and im gonna go into town to get chicken tomorrow and make it in that "Cooker" (new instant pot).

So, I guess he likes it!
I can't wait to hear how it turns out!

Funny I thought this thread was about marijuana because it said "Pot" LOL. No, I haven't tried the pressure cooker, don't have one.

We've had an Aroma pressure cooker for years and love it. Instant pot and several other brands have come out since.
Ours is very easy to use and just the right size for us.( 6 quart).
I think the smaller one might be hard to find recipes that fit.
