Anyone Used An OTC Item To Check Sugar/A1C Levels?

I saw yesterday some OTC things for sale on line and was wondering if anyone has used them what their thoughts were.

My A1C is part of my routine blood tests every 6 months at no cost to me other than a $2.00 copay.

I’ve used the Walmart generic test strips and meters with good results. I still use their generic finger sticks because they cost less than my insurance copay.

Before buying anything talk to your PCP to see if you need to test. The PCP should give you a prescription for testing supplies. The copay for my test strips is $5.00 for a thirty day supply. I can’t remember if the meter had a copay or if it was free. I do remember that the insurance would only cover certain brands of meters and supplies. So it might be smart to talk to your insurance company before you see your PCP.

If, by "OTC," you mean Over The Counter, all testing supplies are OTC. I only buy my testing supplies online without any insurance.
The "Embrace" meter & test strips are very inexpensive.
