I don’t follow the ponies or do I seldom bet. I do watch the 3 races this time of the year. The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. I usually bet $100 across the board. I always bet on the least favored. I didn’t do well in the Derby. On Saturday, I again bet $100 across the board on Gosger, the number 9 horse. Early odds were 20-1, but he went off at 15-1. Gosger finished second, or Show and paid $9. I think I won $450 less the $200 I had bet on win and place. I should walk away with $250. Anyone know if this is right?

I don’t bet enough to understand how they figure the payout.

The winner, Journalism, was about 5 lengths behind going into the final turn and won the race. It was exciting to watch. This horse finished second in the Kentucky Derby.

I haven't watched any of the triple crown since 1973, and then I did see all three by shear accident. I should mention that I can look out my window and see the neighbor's horses though. I take it something interesting happened, but I am, as usual, totally unaware.

I turned the TV on just as the horses were going into the gate. Great finish. That Italian jockey was thrilled to win. The owner looked kind of weird. No excitement at all.
