Wow. That was insane. And the punishment was way too light. He should have done a year in jail for that, THEN had his driving priviledge revoked for another year.
Honestly, what I would like to see instituted as punishment for violent, jacked up morons like that, is some form of corporal punishment. Not like they do it in Singapore, where they beat you with a cane for relatively minor offenses, just some kind of good old fashioned ass-whoopin', & only for out of control idiots like him.
It could be something like maybe a 2" wide leather strap across the bare back (or backside), or just lock them in a room with a very large, very mean, 6'-4", 280 lb., highly trained fighter, possibly former NFL defensive lineman, & allow him to just beat the living daylights out of the offender. Nothing too serious though. No fractured skulls, brain damage or broken limbs, etc. Maybe a broken nose, couple of black eyes, both lips split open, and enough sore, tender bruises & contusions to give the idiot some lasting reminders that would hang around for a few weeks of why they're there & hopefully make him think twice next time he got some violent urge.
BTW, did the guy ever explain why he did it or what set him off?
Being that the victim was a former policeman, I'm thinking maybe it was somebody he'd arrested before.
