I was working at a call center once and one of my co-workers said, "Do you know who _____ ____ is?" (Famous singer from the 50s.)
"Oh yeah, I remember her. She had some big hits."
"I just took an order from her assistant. She sends (the gifts we were selling) out to the police departments, hospitals and doctors."
Many of the customers we talked to sent gifts to their doctors or a hospital for the holidays, especially during Covid. They were sincerely grateful to have survived.
I thought that was so interesting. She was once a big, famous star, still has a personal assistant, I still hear her songs on the Oldies station sometimes, and she sends gifts out to community workers in an effort to build goodwill. Kind of the opposite of what we hear some famous people do nowadays with their money.
