Are any of you Arthur Murray trained dancers?.

This was a big deal back in the day and I am surprised that these studios still exist. One of my sisters and a friend of mine were instructors in the forties and fifties. Dancing was an important skill to have for doing well dating. Seems like it is no longer required as you can get by by just jostling around...

Yes indeed. Although I simply attended a local ballroom dancing school, in the early sixties. Attained gold medals in both ballroom and Latin too! I do remember seeing the adverts in the papers for Arthur Murray though.

I attended a quickie class before my senior prom and developed a crush on my instructor.

Unfortunately, she wouldn't go to the prom with me so I had to settle for Donna Salerno.

And which Donna Salerno might that be? There is a lot of them out there according to Google and some of your vintage, maybe you could look her up. One of my favorite authors, John Updike, wrote a funny short story of an old high school classmate going to Florida to meet up with a female one...

That's funny - I've never thought of Googling her.

Of course, now I'm happily "in a relationship", so ... no need.

Ah, Updike - Rabbit, Run ... good stuff.

Just as well you don't go after her like the guy in the story. She was retired in Florida and he went to see her. The changes that they had experienced removed any fantasy he had of starting a relationship. She invited him to stay for a tuna sandwich but he left stating he had other business to attend to. The Rabbit trilogy was great and made me laugh when he married the daughter of a Toyota dealer; I was a big Toyota customer at the time and was always at a dealer helping my daughter and some other ladies work a deal, or so it seemed, as none of the staff there were social workers...

Yeah, it's true - you can't go back again. She's probably divorced from her cement-contractor husband, with three kids, 2 little dogs and an obnoxious cat. :p

I have to read Updike's collection again - it's been a long time.

Nice to know you were doing that altruistic work at Toyota!

Updike was an interesting guy. When he was in the hospital dying from cancer he was writing poetry and wished he could have a final orgasm...
