Nah. Whenever they're finished they are always sure to do me the courtesy of letting me know what I louse I am. They walk away with clear consciences, and I know I never deserved better in the first place. Win-win.
In case you didn't know, I'm responsible for every major disaster since the last Ice Age including both World Wars. I should just record the next such phone call, there might still be another one before I die.

If the neighborhood knows you took in a stray kitten, in a very short time you'll be neck deep in stray cats. For most of human existence, we lived in small groups, it was easy to care for loved ones. Today, our loved ones (at least the ones you don't want to strangle) live hundreds of miles away, or are equally emotionally distant. So anyone, who befriends another in need becomes "family".
