Are Teenage Girls Born With a Cell Phone in Their Hand?

Still love 50's & 60's music!
I was at Walmart today. I saw a woman with her daughter. Mom was pushing the cart, while daughter followed behind with her face in her phone. It started me thinking, on the drive to the store, daughter was probably ignoring her mother and looking at her phone. When Mom was paying up and putting her groceries on the belt, daughter was probably staring at her phone. When they got out to the parking lot, Mom probably had to put the groceries in the car, while daughter sat in the car with her phone. When they got home, Mom probably had to bring in all the groceries while daughter went to her room.

Later on in the store I saw another young woman. Maybe late teens or early 20's. She was pushing the cart with her left hand and had her phone in her right hand. She was talking to someone, and I heard her say, "I don't know. I just wanted to know where the b*tch is." I couldn't help but laugh. If these girls didn't have a phone, what on earth would they do with their lives?

You stumbled on to the fact women are way more chattier than men. Many moons ago, they used to have separate psych. wards for men & women. When I went on the men's, it was quiet. You could hear a clock tick. And the guys kept to themselves. Go to the women's and it was loud. Everybody was chatting away. And they were involved with each other. Maybe, women now have phones to keep in constant contact.

I find that a little sad. Today's kids seem to be way too connected to devices, especially phones. I had to battle with my three to get them to curtail their use (e.g., no phones at the dinner table or when dining out, or during family visits, phones on the kitchen counter overnight, etc.).

I really think all the recent advancements in electronics, social media, AI, and so on, have not done most kids and young adults any favors.

Just my 2 cents.

Moms and G moms let their kids use their phones when shopping to cut out the interferences.
Sure, no one is getting the correct exercise time each day.

Well, if teenage girls are, teenaged boys are too. In fact, that extends into Millennials as well. I see a lot of young people with their faces in their phones. My grand nephew just graduated college, my youngest grandson graduated from high school last year. Both of them had to be told to get their faces out of their phones when they are present with us (at separate times).

I am a female but I have no interest in having my face buried in my phone and ignoring everything else around me. It's not just young women, every age here is the same... just a couple of days ago, I was pushing a full trolley a woman about 60 years old was so engrossed in her phone she walked smack bang into the front of my trolley....

I've lost count of the people who are so engrossed in their phones walking across the road... it's a wonder more people are not killed...

They along with other females also make themselves easy targets with their faces always down in their screens. I can't count the number of times I see them just walking around without noticing their surroundings. I'm a guy who sometimes carries a weapon, and my head is always on swivel. No wonder so many go missing.

Then again, at the grocery store I'm always seeing men on their phones, apparently talking to wives or partners saying stuff like, "What'd you want me to pick up again?"
I never do that.....ever. Soon as I walk in the store I turn my phone off. If my girl wants something else, she can come back.

From listening to what I can hear of their conversations, it's more likely that it's the husband forgetting--and refusing to use a list--what the wife/partner asked him to buy before he left the house. From my own experience: "I need you to buy this, this and this. Want me to write you out a list?" "Nope, I can remember." No, he can't.

It's not only a teenage girl malady. Many adults are addicted to their phones. If it isn't pressed to their ear, they're scrolling. It can't be more than six inches away from their hand, and they constantly check it. It's beyond annoying.
You've just described my older sister. That phone is always right by her side. Even if it's plugged in charging, it's still on! It's her lifeline to the outside world. She can have 3-4 texting conversations going on at the same time. In her defense, she is a masseuse and her contacts are via texting, but it's still way over the top.

I begin to believe 1/5 the population may be Bipolar.
Maybe they feel the need of a distraction. Videos, con-
versations, games, books, music in their ear most
all the time.

When I am waiting in a doctor's office, it seems everyone is on their phones. Most are elderly, so not sure what they are doing. I do not use my cell phone for going online. I am not that good at using the phone except calling and texting but not that often.

scrolling Facebook or forums like this, reading articles or the news on the internet, reading an ebook, writing emails, playing games, looking at photos, - many ways one can use a phone to while away time when in waiting rooms, on buses etc.
