Right on. It used to be fun back in the 60's. But, even then, money became the issue.
Of course, getting into roundy round racing wasn't much cheaper.

Yes, a fine gentleman. Always took time to talk to you. Met him at his museum down Ocala, plus he's always at the swap meet he put on every year at his place. I'm sure you know the story of his last front engine dragster, but, there may be others that weren't aware.
While he didn't invent the rear engine dragster, he did perfect it to what it still is today. Cost him part of his foot, but, drag racing is the better for it.
