Are we in this forum for the "likes" etc., or for discussions! Or both?

Good Heavens, @Jamala you are a closet sadist! You just conjured up the worst possible scenario imaginable to me! My ideal solution would be to become a hermit but strangely enough I like people, as long as I don't have to mingle! A Forum is perfect for that. Only time I don't feel shy! :)
When I was a little girl, I was painfully shy and although now I am very comfortable in any situation, it wasn’t always that way.

My mother’s first step was to enrol me in a ballet school. Dance brought me out of my shell.

However, if you’d rather be a hermit…then be a hermit in good health :)

Epilogue: Just in case you got the wrong idea when I talked about wanting to be a hermit, or about my shyness. As usual in life, I am and am not! I would hate to live a life that is too isolated even though that's the impression I give! I post according to my present mood. Sometimes I "do" want to be left alone! My problem has always been in conducting a conversation. Apart from you folks in this Forum! :D

For that reason I love the hustle and bustle of big cities : I can be around people, anonymous, blending into the crowd, without having to talk to anyone. That's partly the reason I left a small town as quickly as I could, once I reached twenty! I also got used to the company and banter of my mess mates in the Navy! So I am not a totally lost cause, but to take up line dancing, @Jamala ... pure unadulterated horror! :D

And now I will be done with this subject and have a look at what other threads have to offer. And, no need to say it, but given my retiring nature I am deeply embarrassed for having laid myself so open to people on a widely read forum!

You seem like the farthest thing from "introvert" that I could imagine!
Retiring nature? LOL!
But's that's okay! You're fine as you are.

I know that I don't come across as an introvert, but that's in this Forum only! And I am very grateful that it brings out a more outgoing person, who loves to mingle! Thanks for the compliment @RadishRose, you're not too bad yourself! :D

I am in agreement with you, @palides2021 except for that last paragraph. It contradicts everything I believe in. If I disagree with a post it will never get a "like" just because I like the poster! It's the post that gets judged not the writer! Same as when I give a ❤️, this does not mean that I love the poster, it's what he/she wrote! If there were any ambiguity about this, I would have quite a few men in this forum wonder about my sexual preferences! :) Sorry, but in my stubborn view, a "like" can only refer to a post and never to anything else otherwise the system of "rating" doesn't make any sense! Have a pleasant night, Palides!
I understand your viewpoint! But this system has been operating this way for a long time. You can maybe contact Matrix with your complaints. Just a thought.

@palides2021 As someone else wrote, why make a big deal out of this? It's my personal view. I expressed it repeatedly in response to some posts but have no desire to impose it on the rest of the forum. My logical mind simply couldn't understand a post getting a like just because someone liked the poster. If I felt like that as well, I would never get done giving "likes" to just about everyone in this forum because there's no one I dislike. I am quite content to let matters rest now! R.I.P. subject "like!!!" :ROFLMAO:

No, no, no OED. That would be worse than "read"
See my # 101! Let's leave things the way they are! :ROFLMAO:
But I swear sometimes we need it OS! Please don't feel you need to apologize for starting this thread or making suggestions. And the people who click Like, Love, Wow or whatever shouldn't have to apologize for using the emoji feature whenever they want.
