Are we living in a simulated universe?

I was raised & taught to believe in God. However, what I see is ample evidence of active thought and engineering having taken place, both on Earth and way out in space. If there is an intelligence responsible for all of this, why not call him/her/it "god"?
That's a valid point, Nathan. I think it's nature, though; a natural engineering, changes through interaction that are inevitable because "things" are compelled to survive and must compete to survive. And there are natural disruptions that speed up or slow down the changes, too. So I don't think there's a him/her/or it. I think there's just nature - the nature of all things.

There was a TV programme on here a week or so ago,
they were claiming that "Re-incarnation" works two ways,
back into history and forward into the future, I didn't look
at it but it could have a point.

I still believe that humans or similar have been here on earth
for many more years that suspected by academics and some
scientists.

Mike.

Great hearing from you all, and thank you for taking the time to drop by and post.

Verisure, you touched on so much that applies to myself, in that I, too, am agnostic, and content with my beliefs and stance on life, the world, everything, and Ruthanne, your feelings are shared by me.

It's the craziest thing, the feelings I have for this life, the way I feel about life as we know it, the life we're living right now, right at this very moment. Feels like a dream more often than not, a fragment of time that's tied to something far more vast and complex than any scientific theory can define, something superior and highly advanced.

I've had conversations about this very topic with a number of people, and as with most everything, beliefs and thoughts vary vastly.

I have always been fascinated with space from the time I was young, loosing myself peering into the night sky and wondering what's out there, what awaits (if anything), and where we go from here. I wish I could put into words the sensations I get, the mental images I see, and the feelings that come over me at times related to the big picture, that is if a bigger picture in fact exists, which brings me back to the simulated universe idea.

At any rate, I'm glad I tossed the idea out there to see where others are in respect to.
Would you be offended if I suggest that you may have lived before and your mind is trying to resurrect the knowledge and memories you have?

Our imaginations are a simulated universe of course, (and John Lennon famously sang about us imagining "there is no god, nor heaven too").
I've read that it is believed over half of human, or prehuman history, our ancestors lacked the ability to imagine but a huge change took place, and evidence is to be found in the cage paintings that appeared so very long ago.
Therefore it is true that without the ability to imagine arising, none of us would exist today, and I'd guess all kinds of profound consequences arise from this thought. All the great thinkers who have gone before, attempting to see ahead in much more perilous times than the ones we face, and without the technology we benefit from today, are of great significance now, including religious thinkers, not least because they understood human nature.
