Are you a dibber?

Im well aware that most people dont give a kazoo about what I think. I try to fight it but sometimes a dib just slips out. :D
So. I was shopping at my local Piggly Wiggly aka Kroger and one brand of eggs was on sale BOGO. So I loaded up my cart.
As I was leaving I spotted a lady reaching for the full price eggs. I debated on telling her about the BOGO and decided what the heck. Why not.
She appreciated the tip. I found though that some people will give you the stink eye when you dib.

Oh I do it all the time, particularly if it's someone elderly and I see them picking up a similar thing at a much higher price...

Just recently in fact over Easter our supermarkets were selling 2 kilos of veggies..potatoes, carrots, parsnips, at just 15p each.. and I saw an elderly guy pick up normal potatoes at £2.50 for the same size bag.. so I told him about the cheaper ones...

Depends on the store. At the Lidl yes if I noticed it. The more expensive store no cause it's obvious that it's buy 2 pay 1, so if they want a more expensive one I assume that's just what they want and I mostly don't notice what others buy. They have to ask me.

A dibber is more like a meddler. Someone who can't help but "butt in with advice and opinions.
This often includes giving advice and or opinions you didn't ask for.

BOGO was just an example. Could be anything. Say advice on child rearing or what car to buy.
I usually dont dib unless asked for my opinion. Online excepted. :D
No I don't interfere in other people choices ...unless I'm asked, but I certainly do tell people people about cheaper prices

BOGOF's were cancelled in the uk and other multi deals like 3 for £10... when it comes to anything high in salt, sugar or fat.....carbonated drinks.. and cakes and pastries

The govt acting like BIG Brother telling us what's good for us by cancelling any deals on these items... !

Yeah! We mind our own business when out shopping. We’ve got the equivalent to blinders on. We purposely try to avoid others as much as possible.

I'd never heard of "dibber" in any other context than planting bulbs. But I do wonder where the expression "dibs on that" comes from.

So I asked Google and got:

The expression "I have dibs on that" (or "calling dibs") originated in the early 20th century as American children’s slang, likely derived from the 17th-century game of "[dibstones]". It signifies a first claim or right to an item, evolving from the name for the jacks or knucklebones used in the game, which were also called "dibs".

I guess AI felt the need to intrude.

in Australia there is a term dibber dobber - which mean a tell-tale

And that made me think of the expression "jibber jabber":

jibber-jabber(v.)

1728, "to talk gibberish," reduplication of jabber (q.v.). Related: Jibber-jabbering. As a noun from 1813, also gibber-gabber. Compare gibble-gabble "idle talk, chatter" (c. 1600). Jibber (v.) is attested from 1824.

I get what you mean @Veronica.
Using the wourd dibber in the context that you mean....I have helped elderly people many times while out shopping.
Getting items on tall shevles, getting their carts stuck, saying I just bought this item for so-n-so over there, and so on..
I would not dib if someone looked like they can do it themselves.

I have an online grocery delivery service now. I order online whatever else I need.
The only time I go out to a store is when my Daughter is with me. She would help an elderly person too.
We mostly just mind our own business. Some people are just mean these days.
I know that evil eye also!

I know It I've called a time or two. Like the front seat of the car when you were a kid..." I call Dibs!" Meant you called it first, you got it.
