Are You a Latent Debbie Decorator Too?

Numerous sites on FB, etc have decided (correctly) that I will open the link to look at their designs. I‘m not buying anything, nor do I need anything. I just love to look and analyze their whole layout.

I obsess about places that have too many things or open shelves to dust.

I try to figure out the logic of a kitchen design. The work triangle seems to have disappeared. Don’t get me going on fridges. A left-hand swing when it should be a right-hand. Sometimes I can’t even find a fridge and it’s not because it’s behind a tall cupboard door. That type of kitchen must have been created on photoshop.

Maybe I should be adding this to the post about describing your hobbies because that’s what it seems to be.

I can be quite critical of a lot of kitchen designs. My biggest concern is when there is a stovetop in an island and they talk about how the kids can sit at the island and eat or do their homework. To me it's an ER trip waiting to happen.

Personally, I wouldn't want a fridge completely surrounded by cabinets. Appliances tend to change dimensions so what happens when the new fridge doesn't fit the "hole"?

I look around my house and find what I wouldn't or could have done had I built in 1945 instead of the someone who did.
And then there was a gut and rebuild just prior to my purchase in 2006 ... so a whole 'nother set of wouldn'ts and could haves.

A few years ago, I bought a computer game called House Flipper where you clean up, redecorate and sell houses. It's very easy to get lost in and it turns out I am a bit of a latent Debbie Decorator :D

Though I struggle to understand contemporary bedrooms, why do people need a living room sized bedroom crammed with couches and conversation areas? I must've missed the memo that we're supposed to have board meetings in between naps.....

No one sent me the memo either. 😂

I look at some of the bathrooms that you could have a party in. All I see a huge space that has to be kept pristine.

Especially when it’s gas.

I've done floorplans designs in the 80s, just for the fun of it with what began as free software. I then gradually increased until I got the B&G Better Homes and Gardens Chief Architect.

Personally, I favour the L-shape layout in a rectangular room. My current home has this style and I love it.

Below are the basic standard layouts available currently from Ideal Homes website

Thanks for that link, @Supernatural I like logical articles like that.
You're welcome! I get house planning skills and interior design from my maternal great-grandparents ☺️. Unfortunately, at school time, it wasn't a study subject available to women 😕
