Are You A Octogenarian? Let's Hear From You.

Let's hear from my fellow Octogenarians, after all, we are a unique group with a different Life Style than most of the Forum Members. For example---I doubt if any of us is still working, most of us have had one or more surgical procedures and have been on Medicare for 15 years or more and have been retired for 20 years or more. Many of us have GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

Yes I am one Lon.
I am getting many folks contacting me wanting to know all my tales from years ago plus being bombed out twice and machine gunned twice when I was a little girl during WW2. I think folks want the true tales before I kick the bucket. As you can see I live in the UK and I went all through the London Blitz. As for surgical procedures I have had both hips broken and the latest one was in 2015 that I broke in three places which never healed and the pin holding the hip together has broken. Unfortunately I cant have a replacement hip because my bones are TOO brittle. I am 87 and only JUST recently became a great grandmother.

Me? Im LXXXIV.

No longer working but I still know how to do it if needed. (Accountant).

Last surgical procedure, was a cataract operation which was successful.

I live in Canada. Our hospital and medical is covered. No insurance companies involved.

However. Other stuff is not covered such as dental work or hearing aids.

Private insurance policies are available with deductibles. My friend has a policy but his expenses rarely add up to the premiums. I cannot fathom why he even has it.

Only one child and grandchild and lucky to have them.

I have been cut and stitched so many times that my birthday suit looks like a quilt. I retired 20 years ago, working took up too much of my time. Cataracts were so much fun I had it done 3 times. The first time was in 1976, they didn't do an implant because it was then new technology and I was a youngster of 42. I had to wear a hard contact lens, which was a misery. I had the implant put in in 1991. I had the other eye done in 1997. Then I went to the DMV and they took my eyeglasses off of my drivers license. I got my hearing aids from the VA. Medicare covered both my knee replacements plus some lesser repairs.

I will probably be getting my Cochlear Implants in June, compliments of the VA. Looking forward to hearing again. Hearing Aids just didn't do the job.

Yowsah, I'm in my 9th Decade of Life...will be 81 next month on July 11.

I've had Cataract surgery in both eyes, and a full set of Dentures.

I've never been hospitalized for anything. (Knock on Titanium...)

I still do bench presses. (20 Reps with a light barbell)

I have back pain, which forces me to use a walker or grocery cart after a few minutes on my feet.

Manatee, necked I appear to be quilted as well. I'm 84 in a couple of months with 3 children, 3 grandchildren, 1 great and another on the way. I'm grateful that I can still live independently with occasional help from my daughter and her family who live very close. Life isn't perfect but I am happily settle for 'good enough.'

I'm 81 so I qualify for this club. I'm in pretty good shape, just diabetes and loss of balance issues. I've learned never to ask an old person how they are; they will tell you in great detail. I don't have much in common with the youngsters in their 50's and 60's so I don't often post, just come to read. I especially enjoy Pappy's posts, they are always fun.
