Are you a phone freak?

I have an old Nokia cellphone that I keep under my pillow, and use it as a clock/alarm. I don't have phone service on that one. Also have a new basic Nokia for emergencies only .. not internet connected. I rarely
ever use it to make calls. I get robo calls that I ignore.
I got Robo (Scam, Spam) calls all the time. I would just look and if I didn't know the caller, or if the caller wasn't listed I wouldn't answer. Problem with that method is, they keep calling and calling and calling!

The trick is to answer those calls but not to respond! Just let the recorded voices ramble on for a few second and then hang up. They will take you off their list of people to call! It's just my guess but it has worked. I haven't had a scam call in weeks!

Are you a phone freak?
Guess I am becoming one. For a long time I fought a "smart" phone, I just wanted one that made and received calls, I would still if that was available and practical.

Got an iphone a few years back, but have never used many "apps". Of late I try to keep it with me most all the time, keeps it from getting lost...

No. I have (had) a flip phone but have not been able to find it for a month or so. Don't miss it much but sometimes I would like to have it along just in case. Probably will get another to replace it soon. On the plus side, since I do virtually nothing on my phone, there were no bank accounts, CC numbers or anything else of value on the phone that I lost.

My ipad on the other hand is another story. That is my "Smart Phone" although I do not use it as a phone. Sure love it and appreciate the decent size screen and key screen. I am careful with this one to not lose it!

I guess I am as it
- counts my steps
- I record my food and walking time
- alerts me for books ready at the library
- a calendar for appts, pick up prescriptions, son's work schedule, bills are due, places I need to visit, i.e. sales in stores
- I have a word game I play (supposed to help my brain)
I am sure there is more but I am tired of typing...

Are you a "phone person"? A phone freak?
No

Hate the thing
Can't get me to text (it's absurd in this day and age)
Paid $700 for the iPhone we have now
Wife uses it
She takes dictation if anyone texts me
It's pretty much my camera if I'm too lazy to haul the DSLR around

I have both a landline and smartphone. For conversations I prefer the landline, it's easier to hold and chat longer. But my friends are getting in the habit of calling the cell phone. It's great for texting, and quick reference when I'm out and about.
When I forget it, I don't panic. I also don't have it out when meeting friends for lunch or movies, I prefer real folks to texts.

This topic comes up often and seems to be as polarizing as religion and politics. I use my Pixel all the time for many different things. It has made my life a lot easier. And no, I do not always have my eyes focused on it but my phone does get used a lot. I have nothing against those who hate using smart phones but I don't understand why some who don't use them seem so proud of it. The first iPhone was released almost 17 years ago so it's not like smart phones are a brand new thing. And basic cell phones have been around longer then that.

And count me in as one who does not like talking on the phone. Never have, even back in my high school days. I always felt like I was "on stage" having to entertain when talking on the phone. Texting just seems more natural to me. But that's just me.....I do have a couple of friends who do love talking on the phone so I will talk on the phone with them but I'm lucky that most of my friends and family prefer to carry on long term conversations by texting.

I mostly use my landline, and have a “pay as you go” cell phone for road emergencies as pay phones, once common, are now just about extinct. I’m more of a tablet than a phone freak…

I don’t like the term “phone freak”. It implies that there’s something unnatural about making full use of smart phones, and there’s just not. 🤷‍♀️
Actually, I believe there is! Something I learned being in management for many years is that people generally will avoid face to face discussions or voice to voice discussions given the opportunity. In my early years people were actually writing memos to people they worked with in the office, thus avoiding dealing with them face to face. As a result, these people had either no relationships with fellow employees they worked with every day or a very limited knowledge of fellow employees. Later as phones came in the 'text' function took over this role and even more so as it is easier to do.

This is bad enough but worse than this I see couples, even married couples setting at a table out to eat and they are on their phones texting God know who.
As a result of these behaviors, I believe that our society is losing much of the foundation of good personal relationships that people used to have. You cannot get to know a person as well on a text communication as you do when you are looking face to face. This is all simple stupid, but if you sometimes have trouble with relationships with friends or spouse the first place to look is how you communicate!

I feel a phone is a tool, nothing more or less. I get grief from children who ask why I don’t immediately react to things they send me. I tell them I am not tethered to that thing. They give me that “You are such a dinosaur!” look.

I am on my 4th iphone. I keep them for a long time. I use them a lot. It has all my social media & I use social media as a learning tool. I'm always checking on recipes, hobbies, crafts, & of course, shopping! I am on my desktop several times a day, too. Now that I'm not working, it's my way of keeping up with things!
