Are you a plant person?

I didn't set out to be a "plant person" - no - but over the years, I've been given plants for various occasions, and I kept them. They are all located together on tables / ledges under a 6' tall pole lamp that holds 4 size 60 watt bulbs. They say plants don't do well under artificial light, but that's not been my experience. These get no natural light at all, yet I've had them for years. The oldest one is a 15 year old Christmas plant. It no longer blooms at Christmas, but otherwise, it's thriving.

I used to enjoy playing in the dirt. I got that from my experience of working on our farm. After I entered college, that all stopped. I could get interested planting things, except flowers. I don’t know much about them, but I enjoy planting fruit trees. They give back a return. I planted 2 peach trees that didn’t do well, so I checked with the local Ag Society and I had to provide a soil sample. My soil wasn’t suitable for peach trees.

I’m definitely an indoor plant person. I have a lot of south facing windows so they get good light. When rain is forecasted I set buckets out to catch the rain for my plants. it’s amazing how much better they do with rain water versus tap water. Even though I let tap water sit for several days before using on my plants.

Out of curiosity I just counted and I have 43 different indoor plants growing in either soil or water.

I’m a plant person…. these days all my plants are either on my patio or inside my apartment. … my windows/doors face SE, so plenty of light/sun
Maybe have 8 or 9 that keep me busy trying to help them stay healthy in this heat.
Inside plants sit around an FM radio with upbeat music on all day….they like that ..😁

My hopes of planting some tomato plants or miniature fruit trees got dashed when I realized how impractical it was to get everything needed to the 3rd Floor of my building.

I have always liked plants in my house. I have about 10 in my first floor, and about 30+ in my sunroom. For outside gardening, I have done it over the years, but lately, have had to deal with the heat, bees, bugs, deer, weeds, etc. It is more time consuming and less controlled. However, I know some of the members here have wonderful gardens, like @MarkD, @hollydolly, and others, and I have admired them.

I love potting plants and creating container gardens! I don't know where my love of it started. My grandmother had lots of botanicals in her yard, including peach, pear, plum and apple trees. She also had a large yucca, one rose bush, big white hydrangeas that we called snowballs and giant sunflowers. I liked the 2 huge silver birch trees that she also had. I did not have any special knowledge of these plants and trees but they were a lovely part of my childhood. My mother once planted a small garden of cutting flowers that impressed me. I always have plants indoors, no matter where I live, and I'm happiest when I'm potting them. šŸŖ“šŸ’ššŸŒæ

I have a black thumb. I can kill an artificial plant in no time at all.

Plants have been known to commit suicide in the back seat of my car on the way home from the nursery. I can hear them whimpering as I walk by them at the outdoor section at Home Depot.

I'm not proud of it, but I have killed a plastic Christmas tree and a preserved fern.

I don't have room or the light for indoor plants so only have two, one on a shelf over my kitchen sink and one big peace lily on the floor in the kitchen.

However, there are probably at least 100 different kinds of plants in my garden, including some shrubs.

I'm a crazy plant lady. They're my babies. If The Hovel were just a little bigger, I'd be a crazy cat lady, toošŸˆšŸˆā€ā¬›:)

I love plants/flowers in their environment – outdoors. However, I do have one Christmas cactus that is still alive and doing well inside my house. I also have one other plant I have been struggling with since March – I am trying to grow a lavender plant from seed and so far, the seedling are about 2ā€ tall. I am giving up on it – maybe I will take it outside and re-plant it in the garden and see what happens.
