Are you a Thrift Store shopper?

I do like browsing round Charity shops, mainly for books and jigsaws. I have also got some real bargains in new clothing. My only 'Junk shop' bargain was a cartoon painting that cost me 10p. When I checked the signature, I found that it was on a cartoonist for one of the London Newspapers. A little bit of investigation revealed that the artist made 'silk screen' prints on board as gifts and this was one, possibly worth up to 50 pounds. Not quite enough to retire on.

I like browsing thrift shops and flea markets to see all the decorative/collector items from previous years/decades gone by. But I have only ever bought anything second hand once or twice. Although I'm frugal, I can not bring myself to buy second hand clothing, furniture or household items. Maybe something for the yard and garden but I usually get that stuff from craft fairs that sells new handmade items.

I am a looker rather than a buyer these days because, I really don't want to collect too much stuff. Having said that, there are things that I find hard to resist and I have bought a few things in vintage markets which I love.

I have only been in a couple of thrift shops and cannot recall seeing anything worth buying, I suspect the staff get first pick of anything worthwhile. We actually have a couple of markets locally which have specific days for vintage stuff and, when the weather is warmer, I shall be having a browse :)

Funny you should mention that I went over to my local Retails store. This is put on by the Clark county humane society.

I got three shirts and two pairs of pants and the funny thing was is that it was senior day where everything was half off and then it was also half off any clothing.

So I got about $21 worth of items 50% of that is $10.50 and 50% of that is $5.25.

And I skipped merrily out the door with my purchases.

I mostly get my White Elephant Christmas gifts there. But also tshirts if they are priced low enough.

Goodwills have priced some items at prices that are even higher than the original retail price - don't shop them too much! For example, I saw a Mainstays coffee mug priced at $4! I recognized this as Walmarts brand that sells for a dollar or two!

We have a huge Ohio Thrift right next door to our favorite Mexican restaurant so I take a quick trip through once in a while. They usually have some brand new "big lots" groups of glasses, cookware, racks of new winter coats, new sweatshirts or t-shirts, that must have been overstocked somewhere.

I once found a big, Mexican style, painted fruit and dip platter for $10 that I matched online for $60, so I was pleased. I also buy new china quite often and donate the old. I've always loved to set a pretty table so when I find flowered dishes for $1 a plate I release my little girl.
I positively love thrifting. I rehab (slowly) old houses…most cabinetry , lights, flooring is bought at habitat for humanity. I will attend another sort of exclusive thing at burbank studios dressed in a six dollar beautiful dress in march. I love the hunt

Good find! Thrift stores are great for special occasion clothes that people just never have enough opportunities to wear out, I needed something festive for a Christmas party one time and found a really pretty red, silky top.

There are always some new looking clothes that I imagine grandmothers bought as gifts for their granddaughters or grandsons that the kids wouldn't be caught dead in but are perfect for me.

Yes indeedy! Most of my clothes come from resale shops/thrift shops. At one in particular, I get some great bargains on good-name clothing.

Some years ago, when my granddaughter was getting ready to graduate from college and was starting to go on interviews, all she had was the typical "college wardrobe" of the day.....hoodies, jeans, t-shirts. We went to a big thrift shop (alas, no longer in business) and for about $65, we had three large bags stuffed full of brand-name clothing of a professional nature. Blouses, skirts, office-attire slacks, jackets, suits, etc.

On my last foray, I snagged two Liz Claiborne tops, looked like brand new, for $3 each.

Yes I always looked for designer clothes, silver jewelry, also antiques, glass wear, lamps, decorations that would work in my house, outdoor items, flower pots, yard tools, I remember finding a metal trellis for a vine...and it was not just thrift stores, great finds at estate sales and antique stores.
