Are you an organ donor?

Deviating slightly. Just because we’ve agreed to be a donor, at what point after a death do they look see if you’re an organ donor? Living in a smaller community with limited facilities, I don’t even think it‘s feasible. I think the would try to harvest healthy organs from a young person, perhaps someone who had been in a car accident.

My first though was that health of organ in question along with matching blood type is prime factor. So i searched and found this.

Wondering where you are and what organization you were trying to donate. Privately owned plasma collection centers might have more stringent and somewhat arbitrary rules since being for profit might need to worry abot law suits?
I am going to point out that.......In Canada it is illegal to sell blood products, human eggs or sperm. The Canadian Blood Agency is the national service that collects and distributes blood, plasma and other blood products for FREE to all Canadians. The idea of Americans selling their blood or sperm is repugnant to us up here. JimB.

Canadian hospitals have harvest teams that track patients that may be suitable donators that are in patients. In my case I am a long time patient at the University Health Network here in Toronto ( UHN is a 7 hospital network in the greater Toronto Area ) so my record shows me as a donor. BC has a Province wide network for donations. Here is a link to the website for more information. Register as an Organ Donor (transplant.bc.ca)

I like the concept, and if a family member or friend needed part of a liver or kidney I'd be willing to donate. I haven't as yet made the commitment.
We were approached by hospital staff about organ donation when my daughter passed. Family all liked the idea, but it would have meant keeping her on life support for an extended period, and so my grand-daughter vetoed it, as she couldn't bear drawing out the horror.

Repugnant to some of us as well, but most of our healthcare provisions in USA are profit driven.
