Are you getting to be the "oldest person" in your family?

There's only my brother and me left from my immediate family and he is a year and half younger than me. Would have
preferred a sister my age but that would have made us twins so highly doubtful

Are you getting to be the "oldest person" in your family?
Being the first born of four siblings it was inevitable. One thing that struck me yesterday, the number of old people that are out and about. The reason that I have been unaware of those elderly is because I have worked up to the age of 79. At work everyone was much younger than me, but now, out shopping with my wife it seems everyone is old.

"You silly old fool," my disparaging wife said, as I commented on all the silver haired shoppers whilst we stopped off to enjoy a coffee. My lady went on: "Our generation became known as The Baby Boomers, given the population explosion following the second world war. That surge of babies has gone through life together causing difficulties like housing and job shortages. Now we are all grumpy oldies," she smirked, as she made eye contact with me. Good point.

It’s funny how we move from the back row in family photos to center stage as we age.

My older sister and a couple cousins are still ahead of me.

My sister is the last real link that I have to the rest of the family, when she goes I will be completely on my own.

It sounds sad but it’s ok, completely natural and less complicated for me.

My brother and sister are older than me, but when first my mum died (aged 100) and then my dad's old friend (aged 103), my generation became the oldest, and one of my friends was now the oldest person I know (she's 86).

I had to stop and think about this, and was shocked to realize that, yes, I am the oldest since my sister died a few years ago. I have a brother 5 years younger and younger cousins as well, so I am IT.
