Are You Going To Brazil For The Olympics?

Brazil, & Rio in particular was always on my BUCKET LIST, but now in view of the DISGUSTING POLLUTION of what was once a beautiful harbor I have flushed my BUCKET LIST. I really can't see them getting that harbor cleaned up to where it would be safe for the atheletes competing in the Olympics.

Nope. I always wanted to go to Rio but I'll pass for now.

During the Olympics is not a good time to enjoy a city. Everything is crowded, frenetic, expensive as hell and full of non-natives (the locals tend to rent out their homes and head for the hills.....) I spent five days in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics and fell in love with it. I look forward to going back one of these days and seeing the city when it's just being a "city" and not the scene of mass mayhem. That being, I thought Vancouver handled being an Olympic city very well. I don't have those same expectations for Rio.

If money were no object and I could visit places all over the world...Rio wouldn't be even in the top hundred...Zika is a very real danger, crowds, sun and heat n' the government is totally corrupt, I'll pass. If I may add something else about Zika is you know they can't kill off every mosquito. People who travel to the games might bring home the virus. It can give people Guillain-Barre syndrome in addition to what it does to babies. Grateful to be past child-bearing age now.

A quick review:

-Politically corrupt and impoverished country will start impeachment hearings days before the Olympics. The military in town might not be there for Olympic security but a Kue or riots.

-Extremely polluted water including dead bodies which have washed up on beaches several times this year alone. Water accurately described as sewage. Throw in Zika there is a chance a tourist will leave with more than a souvenir t shirt.

-Crime is rampant including the robbery of para Olympic athletes and this a week a German TV crew.

-Brazil already has a police killing problem and the rate of police killing suspects has spiked approaching the Olympics.

-Rio had to ask for an additional 900 MILLION dollars over the last month to get ready for the Olympics which means there will be many incomplete projects come games time.

-Rio and Brazil first responders already admit or have quipped good luck shall we say-welcome to heck.

-A ceremonial jaguar had to be killed at an official ceremony because handlers lost control or didn't train the animal correctly.

-2 killed on a Olympic bike path.

Does anything say competence, safety or integrity?

I'm sure it was considered at more than one point...Why could they not perhaps pick a different country? Hum, it seems our nation is on the verge of a zombie apocalypse, perfect we will host the Olympics!"

Besides the dismal conditions in general that's another important consideration...Where would be a place with soft security and a large gathering of people? Just rattles you to think who might be licking their chops right now. I mean they are saying they have all these beefed up defenses. But did they bring in outside contractors or something? Remember not too many weeks ago local law enforcement went on strike after not being paid. Now all of a sudden they have it all secure, no worries?
