Are You Healthier or More Sickly in Your Old Age?

Is your immune system stronger or weaker in your old age? Do you get colds or the flu more often than you did when you were younger? :eek:ld:

For me, I'm actually healthier in my old age than when I was a child or younger adult. I don't think there was a winter that I didn't have at least one bad lingering cold. I didn't get the flu often, but got it a couple of times regardless of getting flu shots.

Now that I'm older, I do take various vitamins/supplements almost daily. I no longer smoke, like I did from mid-teens to thirty, so that has to help. I never get influenza vaccinations anymore, since I learned of their ingredients and real lack of value. Despite this, I haven't had the flu in decades. I rarely get colds, and if I do, they're gone quickly. A friend of ours gets flu shots religiously, and often gets the flu.

I probably eat healthier now than I ever had, stay away from fast foods, greasy fried foods, and cheap sweets or packaged foods with a laundry list of chemical ingredients. Drink more water now too, and wash my hands often after shopping, etc.

How about you, healthier in regard to colds and the flu, or more sickly?

Big change came after retiring. Healthier now because I'm eating better, lost some weight, and getting a lot more exercise. Colds I rarely catch, probably because I'm not around that many people now.

Same here Nancy, not around that many people now that I'm retired than when I was working or in school.

I take all the supplements, vitamins, get the shots and eat healthy, I do not get colds or the flu but I'm beginning to have a lot of hip pain and the eye problems...but then I'm probably older than the rest of you..75, this June.

Great topic choice:) Definitely healthier now, I can't remember the last time I was sick. I know it's been years. I haven't had a cigarette in ten years and get lots of exercise. I think part of the problem in the past was having a houseful of kids. They would bring home every virus that was going around.

Healthier now than when in my forties. Quit smoking, drinking, lost 80+ pounds. Am exercising- cardio, aerobics, weights; watching diet closely- avoiding excess salt-sugar-fat.

Nothing new in this age; still active, still no pains, no pills, no walking aids, no diet supplements.

Still drink and smoke, eat whatever I want and enjoying life more than folks half my age.

As I've said before; It must be my good genes. My target date is 100 years +

I'm healthier as far as colds and flu go, probably because I'm not working in an office with several people hacking and wheezing on a daily basis. Back when I was working, having a cold put you on the horns of a dilemma....do I come in sick and give my cold to everyone else or do I stay home and take care of myself but get dinged for "not doing my job". It was damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I tend not to get colds too often these days, probably because I do very little socialising, and never hug or kiss anyone apart from the grandchildren.
