Are you impressed with child opera singers?

The only opera I have ever seen live was Benjamin Britten's "Turn of the Screw" which features two children and four adults. The children's voices were delightful, but they sang as children. The opera owed much to the English tradition of choral singing and the children's treble voices were not over taxed.

I would recommend this operatic experience to anyone but I agree that children should not sing grand opera.

It is wrong to push children into singing unnaturally and could well damage the vocal cords. Children need to enjoy childhood, one is an adult soon enough!

It amazes me how many of these children we are seeing on talent shows and such. Everyone is so impressed but they either or uniformed or simply do not want to face the facts of how damaging it can be for the child's vocal chords.

Well, there's money to be made and that's too often the bottom line. I hear them and I cringe.
