Are you messing up sleep times, too?

I've been disabled, and mostly home bound since 2001. And I've run into a problem that you'd think nobody could mess up-sleep. I usually go to bed at 11:30 PM an get up at 7-7:30 AM. That's usually. It starts by taking a little nap. At first, it's no problem. But somehow the naps get to be 4-5 hours, and then I wake up after sleeping only a few hours at night. It messes me all up. It's like my main sleep time is my nap time. I'm out of sync. I really don't feel good, then. So I have to stay awake for a long time to reset my sleep clock. That's why I'm typing this at 5:30 AM. I'm resetting my sleep times. I keep saying I won't let this happen again, but a little tiny nap feels so good-and then I'm back to not being able to sleep at night. Are you messing up sleep times, too?

My hubby has a nap every afternoon but only an hour max. I go down and wake him. He still doesn't sleep well at night. We also go for an hour walk everyday and that helps him to sleep better.
Fuzzybuddy - can you set an alarm to wake up after an hour or two?

Sleep tends to become more fragmented as we get older. I have a sleep maintenance problem, often waking up prematurely at odd hours of the night, and then experiencing difficulty in getting back to sleep. It’s a bit after six a.m. as I write, and I’m up now for the duration...

Yes, but it's usually due to neighbor-noise.
In recent weeks, though, I've preferred to get up earlier than usual, because I can often finish a work day before it gets too hot/humid. The heat doesn't bother me, I'm just concerned about my electronics overheating.

My normal sleeping times have become all screwed up. Also my meal times. I seem to like it that way. Sehr Alt.

I have had the same issues since I retired as well. I try hard to keep to a sleep schedule of some sort, but it can be hard, as many here know.
And lately, with the stay at home orders it seems even harder, for me at least. Sometimes I just do not want to get up, having a "Why bother" attitude. So, I am trying to keep myself busy doing things around the house.

I had this problem even when I was still working.

I'd come home, fall asleep, wake up at 10PM-11PM, go out and eat dinner (often after midnight), come home, sleep for a few hours, get up at 4AM, putz around, go to work, and start all over again.

My most recent job allowed me to work from 6AM to 3PM. So one time (this is in the summer) I came home, fell asleep, woke up, looked at the clock, and thought it said 7:30AM!!! I slept the entire evening and night away!!!!! So I leapt out of bed, washed up real fast, got in my car, and started off to work, cursing the entire way. My short commute took me by the baseball fields...there were kids in Little League uniforms playing! I thought "Why the heck are these kids out here at 7:30 in the morning?" Then it hit me. It was 7:30PM and still very much light out. 🥴

I still go to bed at 2AM, get up around 8AM or 9AM, crash for a couple of hours around 3PM or 4PM, get up, and do it all over. Even if I miss that afternoon sleep, I still can't get to sleep before 2AM. I could get myself back on a "normal" pattern with some effort (and some exercise), but why?

Same goes for me fb! I took a nap this evening that turned into a 2 hour snooze. I'm now up at 12:20 am. I'll be up very late I know. I wish I had a normal sleeping routine but I don't because I get so tired during the day or evening and fall asleep for hours on end. Good thing I don't have a job or I'd be in trouble.

I've tried staying up for a whole day and sometimes I get it right but lately I need to nap and mess my hours all up all over again. I've been doing this for a long time. All I can do is keep on trying when I can.

Your sleep problem is just like mine. Also, my meal hours are at absurd times. Sehr Alt

Yup, I get very little sleep and I sleep at odd hours as well. My husband goes to bed, sleeps 7-10 hours and never has an issue. Sometimes he will nap as well. Life can be so unfair.

I try not to fall asleep during the day, but I get so damned sleepy. I nod off for hours. Then It's 3AM and I wide awake. But then it's 10 AM, and I'm dead tired, It's this vicious cycle. Soon, I'm sleeping most of the time in daylight, and up most of the night. Try finding something good to watch on TV at 5 AM. Plus I feel lousy-no energy, tired all the time.

I'm a poor sleeper, have been for years. Good nights, where I can get 4-5 quality hours in bed (uninterrupted), those are few and far between.

I've learned to live with it, and on days when I'm dragging my butt and just can't take it no more, I'll cave and have a nap, sometimes even a sleep, and in the end it does me good.

The only way I nap during the day is if I'm sick. Otherwise I don't sleep at night. I also cannot drop off to sleep is there is anything bothering me. Brain becomes stick in active mode. Reading sometimes helps but not always.

I would have a total inability to conform to a "routine schedule" nowadays. Like others, I'm dropping off 'at the drop of a hat' and that may be for 20 minutes or many hours lately. I've tried hard to stay awake during the day - and fail miserably.

My neighbors do have a way of waking me when the weather is warm and dry. Knowing that I should be outside working on the yard as I am on most nice days, they will phone me.

This accomplishes two things - first, proving that I haven't dropped dead and second, motivating me to get my butt up, change out of my robe, and go play with their dog!

Being a pilot and flying out at 6:00 a.m. and doing that for years really messed up my circadian rhythm. By rule, I was to be at the airport one hour before flight departure time and allowing myself :45 to shower, shave and dress, plus :15 ride to the airport meant that I was generally up around 4:00 a.m., no matter if I was working that day or not. I never napped, so I just learned to live with it.
