Are you, or your significant other, more technologically savvy?

There seems to be a disparity of technological competence between most of my friends and their significant others..at least the ones more or less my age. One in the partnership typically knows a lot more than the other one.

Ron and I are no exception. I'm the one who is computer literate. Even though he has an iPhone and a MacBook, he only really knows the basics of both, and I troubleshoot whatever issues he has on phone or computer. Most always the issues don't have anything to do with his equipment, it's simply operator error or ignorance, either of his devices or the programs that they run. He can sort of navigate around facebook, but doesn't understand at all the intricacies of the settings or how many of the facebook functions work. He responds to emails routinely, but asks me to remind him how to do things like cc other people, reply all, that kind of thing.

I notice no such problem with the younger generation. My kids, their friends, the grands, everyone seems to be tech savvy to a large degree. Of course even in the younger generation there are levels of knowledge...one of my boys, and my son in law, are both computer programmers/developers. They may well have helped design one or more of the apps you use on your phone. They're more tech savvy than my daughter because of their work. But she can SMOKE me with her knowledge of both programs and devices!

How about you? Who's the techie in your relationship?

About 10 yrs ago I had a machine called 'mail station'.It wasn't a computer,I could email people but it couldn't receive attachments. It was the size of a phone book, hooked it up to the phone jack.It was my introduction to new technology
My brother&sister suggested I take the next step by buying a computer, told me all the wonderful things I can do with it
In 2011,I bought my computer,WOW,it certainly was a vast improvement.I really didn't know how to use it,learned as I went along
In our church business office where I volunteer 2-3 mornings/wk,our terrific graphic designer,Lenore has taught me so many computer skills. Thanks to her,I'm more 'tech savy' than I was before. For the past 2 yrs,I have been given a couple weekly computer 'jobs' to do,which is fine by me Sue

Both wife and I, but I did completely set up our desktop after we bought it. I run anti-virus scan, Disk Cleanup and Defrag every Monday.

I traded an old military bolt action rifle to a buddy for my first computer which was a slow, used, business take-out back in about 92'.

I offered to show mama how to use it when I first got it and have a few times since but she has no interest......I'm far from being a computer whiz but if she wants something Googled she just asks me to do it for her. :)

Well, I'm able to do basic computer skills. Banking/ordering. etc. But I'm no longer savvy. Way back in the early 90s, if you wanted to add a printer, it took all weekend. Plus you had to enter these enormous computer lines- like "Avt.ng3/a{d66.aedCV}PJ>00<l>/\k,k...................................Mki9a.ssh:<d>............."
Try doing that without making ONE mistake, especially at 1:45 AM. By Sat. @4:33 AM, you give in and you're 34th in line for tech support.
Ahhh! The good old days! I'm just not into it anymore.

My husband knows far more than I do about anything related to technology or electronics, but neither of us are computer geeks and we have no helpers to call on if needed, so far we get by doing what we need.

I just know the basics and have a very old program that I can use to fix my photos if they need to be lightened or darkened etc. My daughter can take over my computer when it gets messed up. It is so nice to sit back and watch the little arrow move about as she eliminates programs and adds this or that.

Well, I guess my hubby is the techie one as he is responsible for the tv, phone and computer. I am the one that does the finances, cooking, cleaning (he helps a bit), driving, appointments for me and 2 sons (he does his own). If he has a problem he asks the older son.

I do have my own personal "geek squad" in the form of two sons and a son in law, all of whom make their living with computers and that range of technology. I know a lot, but sometimes when the troubleshooting moves beyond my level I call them. If there are issues with the code they'll solve it. I know a little bit of coding, but not enough to read endless lines of code and figure out that one anomaly!
