I am loving the White Lotus.
Marcy, my oldest grandson was over Sunday and during our conversation he said that a friend of his has been telling him to watch White Lotus. So he said he's wants to make time to do that.
We started the 2024 "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" TV series last night with the first 3 eps. It's a very cute and engaging story about a black man and a Korean woman who separately enlist in a clandestine service, only to be put together posing as a married couple for espionage purposes. Naturally they fall for each other. The series was inspired by the 2005 movie of the same name starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

The combination of the chemistry between the two actor's characters along with some clever dialogue writing make this practically the series equivalent of a page turner. It's already been green lit for a second season.

Maya Erskine stars along with Donald Glover, who also co-write the series. As a bonus there are some surprising and delightful major star cameos. Amazon Prime video.
Doc...I didn't care for the movie, so wasn't planning to watch the series, but based on your review, I just may check it out.

Pachinko, on Apple TV. Read the book for book club this week. Long book, almost 500 pages. Found a series was made, so thought I could watch whole thing before Friday, but there are two seasons of this series, the first, which I started yesterday has 16 episodes of one hour each, so really dragging it out. Not sticking to book only, a little more was written into script. First episode has the beginning and ending of story simultaneously. If I didn't read the book, I think I might have been lost. I believe I might watch whole thing. If so, I'll be dedicating a lot of time to tv, which I don't really do.

Good for me, though, this involvement in long series. Helps dull reality which sucks, IMO.

Pachinko about 4 generations of a family of Koreans living under Japan's colonial rule, in Korea & later Japan, from early 20th century to late 20th century

I think I possess the entire collection of Hamish MACBETH dvd series - a Scots tv series going back quite a few years now - but this is a show with everything - humour; beautiful Scottish scenery [the real thing] ; romance and more humour and it is usually quite dry also - if you like all those ingredients I might be worth accessing in some way?

I didn't know they'd done so many seasons. I watched the first only.

No bc it's too long! I don't read books over 500 pages unless by one of my favorite authors. Am I missing out?
No. It's a good book; not a great book, IMO. That's one reason I love my book club--I get introduced to books/authors I wouldn't choose for myself. I'm not even sure I will continue with the series. If not, am I missing out?

Well, I'd still recommend the series, mostly due to the good chemistry between the leads.
But just over the halfway mark the series started to come off the rails. I think the problem was that they used too many writers. The consistency and continuity suffered from episode to episode.

In one episode, the two went to couples therapy, which I'm sure was intended as satire. Bit the only one who seemed to act the gag (pun intended) was the therapist, played by Sarah Paulson.

It was fun to see the cameos by John Turturro, Alexander Skarsgard, Paul Dano, Ron Perlman, and Parker Posey. The show rather ground to an end, with the producers having the benefit of knowing that the series had already been green lit for a second season. We'll just have to wait and see if they will have ironed out the kinks.

On Prime I been re-watching Seasons 1-3 again to refresh my memory & why I liked it. Named "All Creatures Great & Small' which now has 5 seasons. Just finished the repeat of S1 then restart S2. Great little series about an English farming community. It has a little humor & quirky interactions. Great series.

I finished Paradise (Hulu) last night. The plot is crazy, silly, and manipulative and I enjoyed every minute of it. It is a thriller/drama type of show but I really can't divulge much about the plot without spoiling things There are a lot of time jumps (think Lost) so that might turn off some. Apparently the plan is for the show to only have 3 seasons. There is some violence and swearing but nothing that I found being over the top. However, I am rather tolerant of those things.

I'm kind of stuck on finding something new to watch now so I am going to start another rewatch of The Americans. It is one of my "comfort" shows.

White Lotus Season 3 is so much worse than the first two. I think the second was my favorite. But it's feeling formulaic now with regard to both the characters and the plot.

Also, I'm still slogging thru Severance but don't know why anymore. I have no idea what it's about and most of it is boring.
