Are you streaming ( or binge watching ) any series on Netflix, or any other service? Tell us about it.

I've been enjoying The Residence and am bummed to learn Netflix hasn't renewed it. It's a witty who-done-it about a murder in the White House and stars the brilliant Uzo Aduba (who I first came across in Orange is the New Black).

I tried to watch season 2 of Squid Game because I really liked season 1 but I coudn't make it through the first episode. I also really liked season 1 of Yellowjackets so I gave season 2 a try but could only get though episode 1 and half of 2 before I gave up on that. Then out of desparation I tried "Good Girls" thinking I would hate it too, but to my surprise I found it to be pretty good. I'm almost through with season 2. Christina Hendricks and Manny Montana are really good in it.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to start watching Mr. Robot on Tubi (It now airs on Netflix also). I had watched a few episodes when it came out in 2015 but I didn't keep up with it so I thought I would give it another shot. I finished it over the weekend. Was I captivated by the show ? Yes. Did I like it ? I'm still not sure. Rami Malek and the other actors are great. The direction is top notch and is innovative in many ways.

But the plot is very dark , disturbing and depressing. Showrunner Sam Esmail pulls out all stops to manipulate the viewer. In a strange way manipulating the viewer was needed because the viewer is often a part of the show. Confusing ? Yes, as is the show, but it worked for me. I could give a general outline of the plot but the plot is mainly just a McGuffin to explore other issues such as mental health and human interactions.

All I can say is if you enjoyed shows such as Twin Peaks and Hannibal then I would recommend giving it a shot. Otherwise, I would recommend staying away from it which is a shame because in my opinion the show can be amazing at times.

I felt the same way about Season Two of Squid Game. Because Season One was so good, I watched all of Season Two, hoping it would get good at some point. It didn't.

I actually tried the first episode of Season Three but won't be going any further. I've been burned before.

Say it isn’t so. It was so popular I thought they‘d have another season. Hollywood idiots.

...
Nice review, Mark. It was a perfect role for Malek. He plays weird characters much more believably than normal ones. I think it's his eyes...:cautious:

I'm still enjoying The Gilded Age--but I've only watched 3 episodes so far. I can see how it could get boring after awhile. Some great actors there, esp. Baranski and Nixon.
Julian Fellows also created Downton Abby. Gilded Age has the same feel, kind of a prime time soap opera that runs the gamut of emotions from generosity to back stabbing greed. Halfway through the first season it had my attention. I just started season two and by now I'm thoroughly engaged. I had doubts about finishing it for the first 3 episodes, but wasn't ready to turn it off. I'm happy I stuck with it.

I guess I'm lucky to never had to look up the word Sociopath. I just watched The Undone-on Max. It's long and drawn sometimes but it's a true whodunnit series. You may want to watch it until the end. Who will indeed be the true Sociopath? Your guess is as good as mine until the end.

Watching The Good Karma Hospital on Amazon Prime. Medical side is--as usual with tv shows--not very accurate but then I'd hate to have to provide care under some of the conditions in which the medical staff often find themselves. Overall a nice, relaxing watch.

@JustDave : I just finished Season 2 and now I'm so overawed by the dresses, the hats, and the homes. What eye candy! That alone is worth the price of admission.
I know. Much of it was probably filmed in Newport. It was in fact a gilded age, if you were rich. There is a brief waterfront set in the first season that only lasted less than a minute, but it was incredibly authentic and detailed, and I couldn't help wondering how much it cost to build that set. Hollywood can probably use it for something else. I do like the costumes, and I love all the fal da rahl that Julian fellows adds to his creations. Which is odd, because it's totally foreign to me. Have you watched Downton Abby?

Yes. I loved that too, but it didn't have half the eye candy as this one has.

Paulina, are you referring to the 2020 series, "The Undoing"?
If so, I agree with you that it was a good whodunnit, staring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. 6 episodes.

The Better Sister (Prime). A whodunit. Think there may be a second season.
Oooh, that was a good one! We just wrapped it up as well. The name was certainly appropriate. They certainly left the ending open for a second season. Fingers crossed!

The lengths Bertha will go to to marry off her daughter to wealth alone makes it worth the watch. We're only on Episode 2 of Season 2 and the uncomfortable scenes during some of the get-togethers are cringe-worthy.

I started watching Ballard on Prime last night and couldn't turn it off; I ended up watching all 10 episodes in one sitting, something like Bosch. Found it to be excellent...
That's so sad to hear. :D Now you have no Ballard for today! I'm trying to limit my Ballard eps to 1 a day, maybe 2. I also just borrowed the first Ballard ebook from my local library and am reading it on my Kindle. 📖
