Just re-watched series five of "Unforgotten" where the new DCI begins after the sad ending of season four.

One thing I wonder (generally): when you have established cast working week to week and a international, long-time star shows up for a secondary roll, how do the regular cast respond? In this case it was Haley Mills--I mean, if someone I've admired for so long showed up, I'd probably just be a babbling doofus around them, star struck! There's been other shows where there was older but very famous actors (Ryan O'Neal in "Bones" for example) also show up from time to time. It's just something I'm curious about.

I cannot believe I'm writing this...but I just started watching the new season of The Bachelor. The new Bachelor is an adorable, young Black man. The Bachelor is in it's 29th season and as far as I know, there have only been two Black Bachelors. The franchise was often criticized for it's lack of diversity. Don't know if I'll watch the entire season, but I was curious find out more about him and to see the women he has to choose from.

We are watching "Shetland". A series about two female detectives investigating murder, terrorism and spying in this barren island setting. It's quite well done and keeps one's attention. Be sure to have closed captioning on if you're not a Scot.

The first couple seasons have a male detective that is also good.
Shetland is an excellent show, scenery breath taking. I watched it many moons ago.

I'll guess that for the most part the cast just takes the star in stride. It seems to me that the readjustment of a replacement character (Sinead Keenan put in when Nicola Walker left) would take more getting used to. I'm curious whether Walker decided to leave the show on her own, whether the writers went to another direction, or if there were contract disputes.

you make a good point about the actress S Keenan stepping into the DCI role... she was very difficult to warm to (I don't think I ever got past luke-warm, haha)

I read interviews that Nicola W. and the writer Long both felt the long-standing DCI character would--given her character's empathetic bent-- eventually be consumed by the job. (And you could see that coming through the last couple series) I guess Nicola is doing a different series now.

Yeah, she's done several series since "Unforgotten" ended. You can see the titles & descriptions on her Wikipedia page: Nicola Walker - Wikipedia

She's almost exclusively a TV actress, not having done a film since 2014. Something about her is very compelling. It may be her basic vulnerability. I got hooked on her from watching "Spooks", a Brit spy drama starring Peter Firth (2003-2011). Since then I'll watch almost anything that she's in.

I'll guess that most women would like her in "Annika" (2021), a black comedy police drama that features interaction between DI Annika (Walker) and her daughter. Plenty of mother/daughter stuff.

I'm currently watching Safe on Netflix. Stars Michael C. Hall (Dexter)

Lots going on to try to find his missing daughter and her boyfriend.
Moves quickly..
I watched that, and enjoyed it, but don't recall much about it. I'm a huge Amanda Abbington fan, so I'll watch anything she's in. Loved her in "Mr. Selfridge" and also "Sherlock".

I'm only on the 3rd episode, so I'm still watching it unfold. Not too familiar w/AA, But she's a good little actress.

A few days ago I started watching The Sapranos on DVD. I'm three episodes into it and am not understanding how it became such a popular series, I'm not liking it at all, the only character of interest is Tony's therapist.

Overall low budget, bad acting and weak script.

I've watched so many Netflix series over the last few years to even remember them all. I find most either too violent or too depressing. I did just finish the 2 seasons of The Diplomat. It was rough getting into it but I found it more interesting as it moved into Season 2. I am a fan of Allison Janney and Rufus Sewell is a handsome young man that is easy on the eyes:love: I'm looking forward to Season 3 arriving in late 2025.

I agree with you about Netflix's fare. IMO they should do fewer projects, concentrating on better writing.

I enjoyed both seasons of The Diplomat, which I think is one of Rufus Sewell's best portrayals. Keri Russell gave it 100% in her best Claire Danes impersonation :))), but I think she was slightly miscast. I never believed her as the U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. The writers couldn't seem to decide whether her role was dramatic or comedic. They should have leaned more on the comic aspects. I really liked her in The Americans.

Shetland is an excellent show, scenery breath taking. I watched it many moons ago.
It’s only the two most recent series that have the two women detectives. All the previous, earlier series have Jimmy Perez played by Douglas Henshall as the lead detective with Tosh as his sergeant. I don’t think the recent ones are as good.
The Shetland Isles are odd, if you notice there are no trees at all. The weather never looks as bad as it is in real life!

I was *so* disappointed they did not continue “Night sky” after season one…. Just a whole lotta things left hanging. 😔.
So I looked up what the ending meant and found a few articles. This one breaks it down, although it was obviously written before the show was officially cancelled. Basically Irene and Franklin, once they ventured out to the other planet, decided to stay there. Their granddaughter goes with Jude because she needed a complete life reset. I imagined that she was falling for him unbeknownst to herself. :)

I saw a show on Tubi awhile back called Nikita and while I watch Tubi quite often (it's an excellent free streaming service) I found a full series DVD box set at a Winco grocery store for $7, so I bought it. I'm about half way through season 2 at the moment. I'm bad at descriptions... So I'll just say it an action series about government assassins. If that sort of thing appeals to you, give it a whirl. It's a well done series that was broadcast on the CW, I think.
I didn't think I'd like Tubi at first, but I do. It's one of my "go to's" for disaster and SciFi B movies. I've learned to just play games on my phone or do something else to occupy my mind when the ads play. Tubi has apparently gotten a bad rep with the Gen-Xers I know, including my son. I had to clue them in that it's really a good free option.

The young actor who played Jude had such an interesting face. He was kinda mesmerizing
