Are you the "domestic "type?

She spent 5 months in federal prison. She lied to federal investigators regarding inside trading.
Her prison was in West Virginia, my home state. Rosie O'Donnell visited her once and asked her what she missed the most and she said, "The taste of lemon." Heh. She taught cooking classes, etc. to her fellow inmates who loved her. They said she got up every morning and cleaned the showers before she took her's. I think she's pretty cool.

I'm like Rossana, the realtors said what a relief it was not to have to ask us to get down and clean our baseboards. People visit me and say it's so sterile they don't feel comfortable, so I toss a throw pillow on the floor to put them at ease (and make them laugh.)

Just this morning I decided one of the sofas didn't look clean enough so I unzipped the cushions and washed the covers in the washing machine. It was a struggle getting them back on but they look great now.

I've always felt that if my house is too clean, people will expect that from me all the time. So, I purposely don't. For instance, I'll leave all my jackets and hoodies that I wear daily on the back of my dining room chairs.

I always clean my bathrooms, and keep things clean and tidy in my kitchen. People love to come over to hang and have lunch and may be drinks, so I must be doing something right. :)

I enjoyed watching Martha Stewart's TV show, even though I wasn't interested in following her instructions on making things. I just liked her presentation, poise and class.

And there was another food columnist and TV personality - Nigella Lawson. I haven't seen her program locally in several years. It may be cancelled. She had a similar style and presentation to Martha Stewart, but the two were rivals and did not have a pleasant relationship. I've heard they have since reconciled.

Nigella is still around. I just saw her a couple of weeks ago while channel surfing. She looked pretty and was making a chicken dish.

I'm not the domestic type anymore. My place always looked pristine about a million years ago! It is neat here much of the time. I keep dishes washed mostly. My tables are cluttered right now and need cleaning too. I also need to dust and vacuum and a few other things. If it doesn't get done, oh well....

Oh yeah I do the same thing with my jackets and sweaters and hang my purse from the chair too! 🙃

I’m certainly not keeping a house up to Martha Stewart’s standards. Our house is clean enough. If we are expecting company I’ll clean it up a bit more but not overly. When we come home from a walk our house smells clean. We only clean the floors once per week. Some people clean them every day. I DO consider myself domestic since I usually eat everything made from scratch. I’d rather put my time into doing that than meticulously cleaning up.
Wow, that's great you wash the floors once a week. I'm lucky if it gets done ever 2 to 3 weeks... 😆I, too, clean up the place for company coming over. One time my nephew came over on the wrong day...he marked his calendar wrong...so he saw my place look unorganized and me in my long night gown! At least we had some pizza!

This is Martha Stewart for those who don't know her.
I love to cook and decorate and make crafty things. But, I'm still a busy woman and my home isn't perfectly neat 24/7 because other things are more important. So I'm somewhere in between and content to be so.

I don't have a lot of clutter because I believe less is more. Just a few pieces of furniture and not a lot nic nacs. Everything in it's place. I'm also a clean freak and people jokingly say my own DNA isn't even in here.

I live in a studio apartment so it is easy to keep it clean. I do not like clutter or things piled up on the floor or furniture. I cook very small meals since it is just me here. Wash dishes as soon as I am done eating. I am not a fanatic about it but I like a clean place. I am not like Martha Stewart at all (if she is really like that when she is not on camera).

with all her money she probably has a team doing it all for her...

I manage to get the dead horse out of the living room before it starts stinking....LOL

The dishes are washed immediately. The laundry is done. The toilet is clean. The kitchen isn't disgraceful.

The dust, I'll admit, gets ahead of me. The bed is seldom fully made after getting up. The laundry gets done and the clean clothes are hung up or put away promptly but never ironed.

I don't rhapsodize about cleaning supplies. My towels don't match....except for the ones I put out for guests. I don't have pretty bowls of poupurri, poupourri, potporry, chunks of good-smelling stuff laying around. My kitchen towels are cleaned and bleached but not particularly attractive.

No furniture in the house has doilies on top. My bed isn't covered with decorative pillows.

Peg Bracken, the writer, said there are three kinds of homemakers: Spotless, Spotty, and Spotful. I've ruled out Spotless. I'm on the fence about Spotty and Spotful. Just call me Spot and I'll come running.
Pot Pourri Jules ?..lol..that's so 90's.... these days it 's soy wax burners.....of which I have one in the livingroom.. and another in the outer office room :D

Are you the "Martha Stewart" type? Is a nice, neat home a "good thing"? Are you the domestic type? Or are you like most of us?
I'm certainly no Martha Stewart, and that's a good thing! Since I had a stroke which affected my vision, I'm limited to what I can do, when it comes to cooking & baking. My husband does the cooking, and if need be, I also help if need be. I still enjoy baking, but I don't bake as much as I use to, since I'm type 2 diabetic, and I need to lose some weight. But I do exercise every day.

I'm not sure how to describe my house keeping style, but it's differently not Martha Stewart. My house is clean, but it's not sparkling. Right now I'm finishing up the spring cleaning & just have the curtains left to wash. We always do a big clean before guests comes over.

With four cats & one dog, we vacuum regularly. Dishes are washed after use & counters are wiped down. My end table in the living is cluttered with magazines & odd-n-ends to do while my Hubby's is always clear. We have one room that's are "black hole" that things get tossed in to get them out of the way, but this next week we've both said it gets cleaned out as part of spring cleaning.

The one thing that made me get into a cleaning fit was after watching the TV show How Clean is Your House? that had been on BBC. OMG, my stable is cleaner than some of the houses those people lived in.

That show and "Hoarders" inspires me, too. I know houses are priced according to square footage and seeing people use up a large portion of that footage as an in-house landfill just bothers me.

One thing I like about our house is it has no basement and no attic. Our 3 car garage contains our three cars, a ladder and 10 jugs of water. That is all. No boxes stacked up anywhere, no rooms used for storage. I don't believe in "storage," if we aren't using it we aren't keeping it. Someone else can have it.

We decided to get new porch furniture this year so I set the old rockers out by the mail box and they were gone in one hour.

I’m definitely domestic. Ron and I both hate clutter and like a clean, organized home.

We both like to cook, so our meals are made from scratch. I love to decorate, so our home doesn’t look dated, and I’ve never been one for a neutral palette so there’s always lots of color.

Anyone can drop in anytime and the house really wouldn’t look any different than if we’d actually planned for guests, other than freshly cleaned toilets and maybe some light dusting and floor sweeping. We don’t leave clutter around though it’s not minimalist either. There are personal touches and some whimsy in our decor.

A common comment when we have people over is that our house is very inviting and feels comfortable. Lack of clutter, warm colors and a relaxed atmosphere make an impression!

Our house is small and we seem to collect more items all the time. My husband thinks that throwing something away, he will need it and it has happened. However, I am the one to throw things away we no longer need. I just need to keep at it and I have made some progress.

I did not know about Martha Stewart until she went to prison and now see her in commercials for some gardening dirt. She does look good for her age and seems to be in good physical condition.

I think I'm very domestic, my home is my sanctuary and I maintain it with great respect. That doesn't mean I follow the latest decorating trends or spend hours a day in the kitchen, it means I keep it clean and fresh and free of defects. Ultimately I want my home to be the place I find the greatest comfort.
