Are You Your Own Best Friend?

I look after myself, always put my own and my daughters interests first and don’t take any rubbish off anybody, so I suppose yes would be the answer !

You are blessed...My husband was a very close good friend..but I still felt the need to make myself my best friend...especially when he and I had differences

We still have our differences from time to time, but we have always worked things out together. He also secretly in the end knows I am never wrong.

I wrote this poem several years ago about being my best friend. Thought I'd share it here:

Best Friend

The highest achievement I have known
Is to be my own best friend when I am alone
Though I can't touch you or see you, my friend
Because you're within the deepest part of me,
I can feel your very essence.
You're like a peaceful, tranquil, flowing river
That always soothes, calming my heart and soul,
Washing me clean.
Together, we are one, my friend, you and me.

Before we can love others, we must love one another -
Being trusting, respecting, and truthful.
We will grow old together, though loves come and go
Like flying seedlings that take root and grow
Into a beautiful flower or tree, staying for a long time
Or sometimes withering away.
Together we are one, my friend, you and me.

No matter the road we take and the people we meet
Where the years take their toll,
No matter that I grow old and my hair turns white,
I am still beautiful to you because in the end,
You will always be my friend.

I have learnt over the years to not be so hard on myself. Hard to do when growing up everything seemed to be my fault. We live and learn.

I can honestly say I am my best friend..I know of no one else who would put up with my self doubts..moments of paranoia…in fact it takes a loony tunes to befriend a loony..so yes me and self we get along real well!

At times in my life I've been my Worst Enemy because I criticized myself or didn't feel good enough. Now I'm my Best Friend because I realize my limitations and appreciate what I've accomplished in spite of them. My partner is my second Best Friend, only because he knows 90% about me and I know 100%.
