Argh! Dealing with Christmas timer lights

So we've put up the Christmas lights, and I went in search of timers, because turning them on and off manually is just not possible, because I forget and DH is hopeless. So I find the outside timer I used last year and plug it in...and nada. Zip. It's dead. Bought it new last year, worked fine for a month, and now it's kaput, after having spent the last 11 months in a dark closet.

Looked online for similar timers, and found one that looked like mine. Fully 25% of reviews were negative in the extreme. And it's made in China, of course. Sigh. We probably spent $15 or $20 on it at Home Depot. I'd expect it to last at least a couple years. So I dredged up one that prolly isn't rated for outdoors, but it's in a sheltered spot on the front porch so I've got very little to lose. I long for the days of reliability. I'm really getting old, aren't I?
