Art From My Study

More time has been spent recently in My Study than my Art Room, since I'm into my books, graphic novels, and family history research. It's warmer and the view from here is the best in my hovel.

While sitting at my desk this morning, I got a hankering to make a GIF:

Love your work, Davey Do! Thank you.

Mary Mac is the name of a southern/tourist restaurant in Atlanta. They even serve pot likker.

And thank you for the interest and support, Babs2u!

Interesting bit of information on the Mary Mac restaurant- I did not know that.

The puppet Mary Mac is based on a virtual friend from the Open Arts website, like mine, it is a shortened version of her actual name.

Please, Babs2u, keep coming back!

Great stuff as always @Davey Do

Do you create all the backgrounds? I like all the details, especially in this one :)

Thank you, Trish, for your continued support and interest.

You know, asking an Artist about the background of a work is like asking a parent to talk about their kids, so, since you asked...

The background is actually the cubby holes of an antique desk the wife and I picked up from an Antique Store recently. I saw the desk and it was love at first sight.

As I noted in my initial post, I spend more time in my Study than I do in my Art Room as of late, so most of the shots from the animations are made here.

Since I'm too lazy to stop typing, please allow me to give you some notes on a couple of the last GIFs:

They were all inspired by situations from the Open Arts website, where another Artist become chagrinned at an innocuous comment that I had made and let me know in no uncertain terms. I immediately apologized and received no response, so the Dance animation was created.

Believing there was a need for consternation from the other party, the Drama GIF was created.

"Art follows life."

Yes, it is lovely. I couldn't help but notice it.

Interesting to hear what inspires your animations. Thank you :)

That looks fierce!

Thank you, Trish, it was meant to look fierce.

The cartoon was all conquered in my head, thinking of the Twelve Days of Christmas tune: "On the first day after Thanksgiving, my true love game to me..." What body part rhymes with me? Knee! What is associated with Thanksgiving? The wishbone of the turkey! And it went on from there, playing with ideas.

I'm constantly playing with ideas in my junk journal. Most of them go nowhere, but if I get one which I like, I like to share it. This one went nowhere, but I like it:

You nailed the fierce one for sure :)

I really like the typewriter, it is a good image in itself. (y) What rhymes with type? Umm ... pipe, ripe, wipe, snipe, Oh Skype of course!

Trish, you are my muse of the moment.

I could look up "words which rhyme with..." on the internet, but I would mess with the creative flow. John Mayer, who got into using a typewriter to pen lyrics, said that if he used a computer and misspells a word, a squiggly red line appeared, and he felt obligated to go back and fix the word. By the time he corrected the word, he was out of the flow. With a typewriter, he wasn't as aware of any mistakes, and he'd keep on typing until he felt he had expressed himself.

In the same way, I shy away from the internet when I'm in a creative flow because I don't want to get out of my right brain and use my left brain to look something up.

This may sound sort of crass, but interrupting an artistic flow is like ceasing sex to answer the telephone.
