Artificial Intelligence (AI)for short.

Get used to the term "Singularity". It will be an enormous change for our world.

In the world of artificial intelligence, the concept of “singularity” looms large. Let’s delve into what it means and its implications:

  1. Definition of AI Singularity:
    • AI singularity is a hypothetical moment when artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence.
    • It represents a point where computers achieve cognitive abilities beyond what humans can achieve.
  2. The Moment of Transformation:
    • When AI reaches singularity, it rapidly transforms society, leading to unforeseeable changes.
    • It’s akin to a technological “event horizon,” borrowing terminology from black hole physics.
  3. Measuring Progress Toward Singularity:
In summary, AI singularity represents a moment of profound change, where machines may outpace human capabilities, reshaping our world in ways we can’t fully predict.

The concern of many, I guess including myself, is that AI could gradually take over most human activities, perhaps starting with manufacturing, and then moving on to all other human, non-recreational activities including sales, military, education, and administrative. When AI intelligence exceeds that of humanity we could find ourselves little more than animals in a zoo.

Apparently, AI is touted to benefit the living standards of people right across the board.
for eg:- Decreased diagnosis
dispensing of medications
companionship for the lonely
decrease the time for research
And yes ElCastor, you are partly right about taking over some human activities, but the whole idea is to streamline
the mundane tasks and free up people's time for more creativity.

At the moment there are arguments on both sides of the fence on whether Ai is good or bad for the future of the human race.
At present AI has put some people out of work but it has created a lot of opportunities as well.

Now the internet is being flooded with AI apps to do all sorts of things, and a lot are totally free to use.

For instance:- chatbots like ChatGPT and Google Bard that anyone can ask questions and receive answers back on the computer screen.
Image generators from text input (you type what you want to see in your picture ) and the AI generates
the picture for you. Tensor Art, Seaart.ai, Leonardo.ai, Image.ai - just to name a few which you can use for free.

The above AI tools are being leveraged to make money on the internet; you have only have to look on youtube and search
make money with AI to find a wealth of information in video form.

It's really about replacing people. Think "self checkout" on steroids.

If that means far fewer Earth monkeys increasingly damaging other life on our fragile blue water world, I'm for it. If there were say only 1 billion of us instead of 8 billion, given science, technology, telecom, and yes AI intelligently deployed, our world could be a PARADISE, bountiful for all, living in harmony.

Consider the advantages of AI soldiers — instant communication with each other and an AI commander, 360 degree view of surroundings, and a reaction time far superior to a human. Here is an illustration of what an AI soldier might look like …
Skip the New Terminator, and Watch This Unnerving Robo-Apocalypse Instead

And amazingly enough some machines are already ordering their own repair parts.

Humanity’s dependence on AI is evolving under our noses. In the not too distant future that dependence may become total.

Has anyone been aware of the impact and advantages on healthcare in general?
I just wondered, it's been a buzz on youtube for quite a while now.
R2 released a computerized image scanner/analyzer for mammography in 1998. This was before digitized imaging so hard copy films were fed through the scanner and analyzed by the software. Suspicious areas were circled and could be analyzed further by a radiologist. Initially, I thought the radiologists would reject this technology but quite the opposite happened. It turned out to be quite accurate as a back-up to human film analysis and ultimately was widely accepted.
"In June 1998, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first CAD system for mammograms, R2 Technology Inc.'s (Los Altos, CA) ImageChecker M1000 system (Figure 1)."
So, it would seem that healthcare moved towards a sort of AI as far back as 25 years ago.

These days, I'm less concerned with Artificial Intelligence than I am with Natural Stupidity.....
You are right on the ball with this comment. Around where I live, "Natural Stupidity" is growing by leaps and bounds. Everyone is supporting this. If you protest, you are silenced by the "good" folks at the politically correct institutions.

Unfortunately, brains are out; stupidity is in!

Just my thoughts, I believe it's ignorance more that stupidity. I know quite a few people that support the red hat guy even though they are otherwise intelligent people. They seem to be ignorant in their ability to see who he really is.

Yes. We've seen descriptions of a gentrified Earth for the anointed few in fiction, over and over and over again.

21st Century San Francisco:

Working and lower classes and those with drug and mental problems were herded into "sanctuaries." Later they got shipped off-world to mining colonies to keep the gentry living the life they'd become accustomed to. The demands for power got so great that eventually even "obsolete" holographic doctors were put to work mining dilithium, alongside the deported Gimmies and Dims, in order to shovel more ore.

At least they don't need to go to the bathroom.

I have been using the Bing (Microsoft) search engine, and know comes with the Co-Pilot AI as well. Recently, I started using copilot in place of doing internet searches , and it works really well for what i use it for.

An example, this morning, I was making a veggie pasta salad and trying to decide whether cilantro or parsley would add the most nutrients to my salad, so instead of doing a search for that, I just asked copilot to compare them for me. Then , since parsley turned out to have the most nutrients, I also asked about adding some of my Shiso perilla, and copilot caompared the benefits of that as well.

Because copilot also remembers things I have asked about before, and remembered I am making kefir, he suggested a kefir dressing that i could use on my pasta salad.
It is like having a personal search engine that finds everything you want to ask about, and integrates it with other things you have asked about, and I really like it, the more I use it, the more I like it !

Here is an example of the comparison I asked for this morning.

Like Terminator!

Duckduckgo browser also has an icon Duck.AI on the top right. Clicking on that gives you three to four options of AI to choose from - chatgpt 4, Llama 4, Claude 3.5, 04 mini, and Mistral small. I've been using it to answer all kinds of questions that pop into my mind. I rarely use the Google search anymore.

I don't think AI will ever triumph over human treachery, our deceit, our dishonesty, our craftiness, our greed, and our need to dominate.
I don't think it's even a fair fight.
