As you age, are people treating you differently?

Not really, other than those who are younger addressing me as "sir," but I think they often do that to seniors. I'm thankful to have no hearing or mobility issues that draw attention to me, but sometimes I worry that if I should become disabled, I could be seen as a target for muggers.

Maybe. I hear ‘are you doing okay?’ more often these days. :)
(partly because I have a walker, and partly because they know my doggy died at Christmas time.)
Bonee sorry to hear about your precious dog... that's very sad, I remember you posted a picture once...it was a beautiful white pup... 🥰

I know anyone anywhere can be a victim, but do you live in a high crime area ?

No, I live in a low crime rural area now, but I probably carry with me much of the mindset I had when I lived in Dallas (population 1.3 million) where muggings were commonplace. No matter where one lives, those who would do harm are still out there, and they usually choose someone who looks vulnerable.

I noticed that recently and I was thinking, what the hell? What happened to respect your elders? Some of the young people lately are not only not helpful in public but downright rude.

I’m 67. I do expect people to take my age into consideration out in public.

When in public I try to maintain a "I can kick you ass" demeanor, but that's becoming harder to pull off as the years go by.

Lol I do also but I'm a wuss .

I was at the hospital not long ago for surgery and no big deal but lost count how many times I almost passed out by simple pricking of finger for blood sample and do not even get me started on seeing a needle .

I used to be a tough man , lol but that looks to be many moons ago .

A couple of years ago, my pocketbook was stolen in broad daylight as I walked to the bus, a walk I then took nearly every day. The perpetrator looked around 12 years old to me (but now that I'm old, everyone looks around 12 to me). I tried to run after him, but of course he was much faster than me, and a car came and picked him up. It took me weeks to re-order my entire life that was in my bag.

When we lived in Texas, the population around us was much younger than us. I remember going to Lowe's to pick up dirt for my garden. The bag was pretty heavy to lift. A young man approached me and asked me if he could help me with it. I thought he was being very kind and helpful. At the same time, I thought, I must look really old to him. This was the first time it hit me.
A few years later, we moved to our 55 plus community in Florida. The population in this area consists mainly of seniors. So here, I do not have the impression that people treat us differently. We are all in the same boat!

How do you compare Texas to Florida as far as people ?

I have never been to Texas but meet Texans in Key West as some leave out of there instead of Miami on cruise and they are very friendly .

Two young guys I didn't recognize were cutting through the street and tried to protect me from a large rottweiler walking around. They didn't know the dog didn't bite. It still nice seeing that.
