I have been able to sign (BSL) since before I could talk. I was born into a profoundly deaf paternal side of my family... so I have never known a time when I couldn't sign ..
....It's different languages.
ASL = American Sign Language
BSL = British Sign Language
FSL = French Sign Language
Etc......
ALL languages develop and evolve in the locations and communities in which the people are, who use them. Reflecting that culture, and the needs and priorities, of each one.
Signed languages are no different, in that regard.
They have some components in common with each other, but are not the same language.
adapt to what ?... I was a baby, just no more than 2 years old when I learned BSL, so I have no recollection of learning it.. ... and yes it's different in some aspects in various countries, but understood... generally .. by most... I can only liken it to a Mexican speaking to a Spaniard.. in that many words are expressed differently the syntax is similar however the semantics are the sameDid you need to adapt? Also is the ability global or are the hand gestures different by region, country or continent?

I grew up signing, because I had several deaf mute relatives, and some profoundly deaf... all are gone now.. except one uncle who I never see... so I never have use for BSL any more...Okay I understand that now.
