"Police initially had reported "multiple victims" after the attack fueled chaos early Sunday on a street that features numerous bars and restaurants. Authorities cordoned off the eight-block area not far from the State Capitol and Golden 1 Center – where the NBA's Sacramento Kings play – and said the investigation was underway.

"Officers located at least 15 shooting victims, including 6 who are deceased," police tweeted. "Conditions (of the victims) unknown at this time. Please avoid the area as a large police presence will remain and the scene remains active."

Police provided few other details, and there was no word of any arrests.

CHURCH SHOOTING: 5 dead in Sacramento church shooting after man kills his children, then takes own life

Video posted on Twitter showed people running in the street with the sound of gunfire in the background. Multiple ambulances and other first responders were at the scene.

The shooting comes a month after five people were killed when a man opened fire at a Sacramento church and killed his three children, then fatally shot himself, authorities said. A fifth person also died in the shooting."

This happened over a month ago. These kinds of things are just so hard to fathom. Those poor little girls! I wonder if they felt afraid of him before this happened. I don't understand why people feel they have to involve others in their craziness. You want to off yourself...go ahead but leave others alone. And to not be safe in churches and other houses of worship! I'll never be able to understand these things....so horrible and tragic. May the victims R.I.P.

If it follows the current pattern someone considered themselves disrespected and decided to take lethal action to gain respect or make their point. Sat night at or near a bar if this is not a hit of an existing rival someone probably got 'rejected' at the bar or by a person in there.

What today's youth consider worthy of the death penalty is messed up to say the least.

Ah! Nothing new here. It happens all the time. Pride of gun ownership I think? Perhaps too many guns around? What a mess and no one can do anything about the problem!

People complain. They talk and talk but nothing ever really gets done to solve the problem They put flowers on the sites where these shooting happen but nothing ever gets done. I suppose it's a way of birth control or population control. Perhaps it's just too many people in close contact. For sure it's a problem with mental health. Stay in tune for the next shooting coming to a place, hopefully not too near your home.

Killing is a matter of will; not the availability of guns.

(168 killed) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City_bombing

(45 killed) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster

(87 killed, 450 injured) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Nice_truck_attack

(270 killed) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_Am_Flight_103

(36 killed) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_Animation_arson_attack

And (of course) when Osama Bin Laden decided to kill 3,000 people, he didn't use a gun; he just took advantage of our screwed-up priorities that allowed FOUR planes to be hijacked in one morning.

Shooting broke out about 2 am, right after the bars/nightclubs close, and witnesses say there were at least 2 shooters who were shooting at each other after exchanging punches and shoves. Pretty likely they were drunk. As likely, drugs involved, too. Nightclub bathrooms are popular spots for drug sales and use.

This took place in Downtown Sacramento on a street that was part of a huge, beautiful shopping district until some of the most popular stores started closing about a decade ago. The area where the church shooting back in Feb was also a low crime area until fairly recently. Both areas have seen a boom in homeless camps. I'm guessing that's relative.

But Americans have the right to own all the guns they wish, after all it is in the constitution. They make noise about background checks, you know gun shops are supposed to check to make sure a person is legit, but I doubt that anyone is turned down. Gun shows sell to anyone, people who own guns can sell to anyone. After all it is their right to own guns!

Every year 100s-of-thousands aren't approved for gun ownership for various reasons including a past felony conviction, a history of mental illness, didn't pass the background check, failed the safety course...

No gunshop wants to lose their license and go to prison for illegally selling firearms. It's a felony.

Not only that, if you give the salesman an extra $10.00, he'll give you all the guns you want, even if you show up in an Orange jumpsuit, still wearing handcuffs.

Well not to argue, but there are still gun shows and private party sales. I know we sold a pistol outside a bar in Colorado. I knew the buyer but I also knew it was a crazy place to sell a gun.

Whatever, come on though we are talking about people's rights! You know their constitutional rights, that no politician will vote against.
Some have tried.

But it is in our Bill of Rights, which is separate from the Constitution. When an elected official takes the Oath of Office s/he only swears to uphold and protect the Constitution, the Oath doesn't refer to the Bill of Rights.

Many, many more gun owners store and use guns responsibly than those who don't. Most guns used in a crime, such as home invasions, burglaries, rapes and murders, are stolen hand-guns. Those are the guns that law-abiding gun owners want to protect themselves from. It takes police 12 minutes on average to respond to a 911 call ...that is, when a victim is fortunate enough to have several spare minutes to make that call. If you live out in the boonies, you're looking at a response time of 15-30 minutes.

If you live in the hills or mountains, you have to rely on yourself, because it will be 45 minutes or longer for someone from law-enforcement to show up. And violent crimes do happen in the hills, where you might find on-edge pot-growers and meth lab operators, but not nearly as often as in a congested city, where you'll find loads of people in a very bad mood, the have-nots and the chronically unemployed, gangs, juvenile delinquents, and psychos, in addition to home invaders, burglars, rapists and murderers.

No guns in my house.

However, when I back this out of my bedroom closet, home invaders run like heck!
