At the fair(Carnival)

Montezuma's revenge... a ride back in the day at Knott's Berry Farms. It looked tame enough at first glance and I couldn't understand why people exiting the ride looked so shaky. Used an aircraft carrier catapult system that pinned you back in the seat and launched you at terrifying speed through a loop and then straight toward the sky. Looked like you were going to launch into space. :eek: Worse than that, was the return backwards trip through the loop.

The old bullet or hammer and the double Ferris wheel.

The thing that terrified me about the double Ferris wheel was sitting stopped at the top and gently rocking in the breeze. When it was moving I was fine.
 
This goes back decades. There was an amusement park in Rhode Island. They had a ride, I think they called it the "Mouse". It was like a small size roller coaster. Part of the ride was when the little car took a severe right turn on a track about 20 feet off the ground. What scared me was it felt like the track was loose right at that severe turn. I remember getting off the ride and telling my parents about it. They really weren't all that impressed. I was a dumb kid, what do I know about it. I talked about that track all the way home. i actually said someone was going to get hurt on the ride. One week later, I was watching the news, and a car fell from that ride when a piece of track gave way. Yup, it was that turn. People were banged up, but no deaths.
 
while not as scary, the Cyclone and the tornado roller coasters at Coney Island were both double rail coasters and the wheel actually left the track when going over a rise. Hooks under the wheels stopped them from completely jumping off the rails.
