At your current age, does it ever seem to you that...

...increasingly, we're living in a society in which every member is expected to mutually sopport the fantasies of every other member?
No.

As a late 60s 70s SF Bay Area counterculture person in a culture with a wide variety of attitudes, long ago many of us embraced the attitude of Paul McCartney's famous song:

...Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be...

But that has never meant given common sense, one ought not if asked, discuss or criticize what others do. Nor is that absolute, especially when it affects others. Let people do as they wish in private or isolated from the rest of us. Nor does it mean when politicians create laws that grate against one's views that all the rest of us need to accept whatever. A prime reason this person is quite resistive to PC politically correctness. Generally, I avoid what and who I don't like.

As I recall the times, advocating for free love lasted just until someone suggested that they'd also like to sleep with a girl you really, really liked.

I think I know what you are referring to and I agree. The thing is though that we are not doing these people any favours. We really need more people who 'tell it like it is'. We are twisting the truth to fit the fantasy, which does no-one any good. Why can't people just accept that not everything is as they would like it to be?
