ATM fees

Also I don't want someone watching me take cash from an ATM and following me.

Where do you bank where that is even a concern? I use a debit card for most local purchases of $20.00 or more any debit transaction at any Credit Union owned machine is free, and my CU reimburses fees from commercial banks. Out of our area and online I always use credit cards.

I can't get over being worried about someone observing you at an ATM, I could not live in an area so crime infested that I was always scared of something.

Unfortunately, crime is everywhere nowdays. I'm not "always scared of something" but I do use common sense in what I do, like in not using outside ATMs in the dark ANYWHERE, EVER. I'm not always scared of getting hit by a train, but I don't run out in front of them, either.

Just because you don't have a lot of bad guys in your neighborhood doesn't mean they don't come in from elsewhere. A little old lady (as I guess I am) getting cash out of an ATM, particularly outside, or even inside, is a great target for bad guys.

I don't even carry cash anymore. I just use my debit card for everything, or the occasional credit card which I pay off every month. Cash is just too much of a hassle anymore, and I haven't written a check in years.

I have had to pay for a dollar purchase before with my ATM card because I never carry cash.
