New thing is Online Auctions. Two places near me run them and they are becoming very popular for both buyers and sellers and seem to be giving Kijiji a run for the money. Lots of selection, mostly on the smaller cash scale, no diamond rings though.

Anyone go to live auctions or browse the online ones?

I looked at one of the online ones and forget the name of it. Guess I don't like having my credit card info out there for some one to hack. But I don't know how else you could do it.

I've occasionally gone to live auctions, but it takes forever for them to get to the items or lots that I'm actually interested in. Some items are auctioned outdoors, and standing there for a long time especially in the cold weather can be a drawback. There are those who go to the live auctions mostly for the entertainment value to see what items will go for. Increasingly I don't care to invest hours of time for the off chance of obtaining an item or two I might be interested in.

Much more often, I'll visit eBay where online bidding is easy, and you can shop through thousands of listings. The price of shipping can be prohibitive, though, for small items. It's also frustrating that the use of "bid snipers" is allowed where a program will outbid you in the closing seconds of an auction, and you've lost your item by a few cents without a chance to counter the bid... :(

I participated in one online auction at Ebay. Someone kept bidding and I did, too, I finally got it. That was the only one I've participated in.

I have collections of old Western gear, high back saddles, Western books etc, so I go to Western auctions sometimes. I bought this full size antique thoughbred horse for $400. at auction, put it on e-bay and got $2900. I t was really georgeous though!
I'm like Terry123, won't put my cc info on line!

Hey @Lee ... Auctions, great conversations... Maybe you can send me the links for the online auctions you are speaking of... I usually hit 5 or 6 auctions throughout the summer months... Love auctions with tools, 4 wheel stuff, gardening, and anything that might make my life easier... Hoping to wind a welder for a good price at the auctions this year...

I agree with not using your credit info online. Using a pre loaded Visa card is one way not to give out info. Set a small set amount that you could afford to lose.

My wife and I used to love going to local auctions and we found many "treasures". Now, we'd more likely be consignors than buyers.
