August Peach Month

We only get great peaches a couple of weeks each year.

I like to eat them when they are ripe enough that the juice runs down your arm and you need a shower by the time you are done.

Next would be peach shortcake or a peach upside down cake with plenty of fresh whipped cream.

When I was a kid the S&W brand used to pack Ripe ‘n’ Ragged canned peaches that were almost as nice as fresh.

Absolutely, once you have had a really ripe peach right off the tree no store bought will ever be the same again. The really ripe and best ones are too soft to harvest and get to market, the closer to rotting the better.

We have 9 different varieties of peach, early to late ones. We get about 6 weeks of ripe peaches, mid-August through September.

I live in the Peach State of Georgia. This is our month. Love peaches!

Palisade, Colorado is renowned for its ability to grow some of North America’s best fruit. Palisade has a rich history of raising all types of fruits and vegetables in a climate unique to this section of the Western Slope. As early as the 1890s, apple, cherry, peach, pear and plum trees were planted in the area. In 1909, the town celebrated the first Peach Day festival, with President Taft as the speaker. During harvest season, which runs from late June to early October, you’ll be able to find these great fruits and vegetables at stands and orchards throughout the town.

BBQ/grilled peach halves with a scoop of ice cream makes a mouth watering dessert.
Super easy to make and oh so yummy
Cut Peach in half, removing pit. Brush cut side with a mixture of softened butter mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon (optional). Spray grates with cooking spray to avoid peach sticking to it while cooking. Cook 3-4 min. at medium heat, cut side up. Turn and cook cut side down another 5 mins. or until peach softens. Plate with a scoop of ice cream. A small drizzle of maple syrup (optional) is also a nice touch!
