Australian expat says English summer Heat is worse than anything in Australia

That is strange, a Google search tells me the current temperature in London at 12:54 AM is 59 F which is only 15 C. Monday's high temperature in London according to Google was 24 C and Tuesday high temperature was 23 C. That is very mild summer weather right now. I would think a window fan should cool your house off nicely.
Coincidentally, a Google search also confirmed that the average high temperature in London in July is 23 C and average low temperature is 15 C. That is in line with the highs and lows I reported in my first post during my last visit to London. I must have been there in a year when the temperatures were running near normal.
OK you have it your way...you live the other side of the planet and rely on google to tell you what's happening in my house... and that our temperatures this week have not reached 90 degree, have it your way..it will clearly make you feel a whole load better thinking you're right... when you're so badly wrong...

Today was the first day in weeks that the temperature was under 80 degrees.. and still in my home, right now at 1.30am it's almost 80 degrees... but you carry on you know better... :D:D:ROFLMAO:

The UK had an unprecedented seventh consecutive day of 30C heat on Sunday, the Met Office said, but some areas were already experiencing the end of the heatwave with heavy, thundery rain and warnings of more on the way.

Forecasters said there had never been a September heatwave on record as long-lived as this year’s episode. Sunday became the seventh consecutive day of 30 degree weather in the UK with 32.5C recorded in Cambridge.

Before that, according to Met Office data, the UK has only had three consecutive days of 30C weather in September on four previous occasions: 1898, 1906, 1911 and 2016.

Tom Morgan, a Met Office meteorologist, had predicted another day of temperatures above 30C, and the highest temperatures were expected in the home counties.

“It’s looking likely that we will see the seventh day of temperatures running at 30C or higher, which is unprecedented. We have never seen anything as long-lived in terms of a heatwave in September before,” he said.

Saturday was named the hottest day of 2023 in the UK with 32.7C

Seven days of 30C heat in September is new UK record – but storms on the way

As others have mentioned, humidity is one huge problem. Humidity in my part of the UK is 97%. Not nice.

But the other problem is, put simply, the UK isn't built for hot days. I lived in Houston, TX for several years, and it gets really hot there. But if you asked me at the time what the temperature was, I'd of answered "70". Because EVERYWHERE is air conditioned, including your home. And I'm not talking some portable device, a window unit, or whatnot - we're talking industrial strength air conditioning in your home. It's fantastic.
Compare that with the UK, where the typical air conditioner is also known as a FAN, and you can understand why we complain. Our homes simply aren't built for hot hot summers.

The weather broke on Monday and got very much cooler. It was 15 degrees cooler on Monday where I am. I'm not sure where Holly is, but she's not in Essex, so there will be slight differences.
I'm about 40 miles west of of you.. ..temps here didn't break until late this afternoon, when we had about an hour of rain, but as you can see the temps right now in this room are still almost 80 deg

Hot weather has led to a 552% increase in people seeking heat exhaustion advice from the NHS website this week, figures show, as temperatures look likely to hit 30C on Saturday.

The UK has had five days of temperatures above 30C in September for the first time and that record is likely to continue on Saturday and Sunday.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber heat health alert across most of the country.

There is also the potential for thunderstorms across a large chunk of central Britain on Saturday, the Met Office said.

There were 32,130 visits to the health advice page on heat exhaustion and heatstroke from Sunday to Thursday this week, according to figures released by NHS England, which runs the NHS website.

This is compared with 4,928 visits made during the same period last week, when temperatures across England were cooler.

Highs of 32.6C (90.7F) in Wisley in Surrey on Thursday surpassed this year’s previous record of 32.2C on 10 June, the Met Office said.
