Australians...do you know what this is about?

Yes, we know.
Our Prime Minister and all of his ministers are dickheads.

They were warned that their immigration practices would cause friction with our large, mostly muslim, neighbour to the north but insisted that the Indonesians would fall into line.

They haven't, and they are now making a big fuss, but in reality, that is all it is, fuss.
Even this pig headed Australian government isn't going to provoke armed conflict to make a domestic political point.

Indonesia won't push it too far militarily either but they could give Australia a lot of grief in the various Asia Pacific forums.
A lot of behind the scenes diplomatic making up will have to occur and some trade concessions granted before this is smoothed over.

My prayers are with you guys. Looks like you got your own Kim Jong Kook eyeballing you and waving it's fists. We know the feeling.

Spoken like a true Labor fan Warrigal, when it was your lot who weakened the immigration laws to begin with. Name calling does nothing but highlight your failure to accept who won the election and shows your ignorance, but I digress--

Its just grandstanding by some little insignificant twerp politician trying to be noticed as they head into their elections and claiming sovereignty of their borders and apparently, bugger ours.

Why we continue to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into a country of corrupt little shits that hate us beggars belief.

Its strange how they don't snivel and whine when we have gone to aid of illegal immigrants whose leaky boat started sinking within their territorial waters, but when one of our ships strays into their waters towing a boat back they almost want to declare war.

Being a conservative my skin crawls when our new government grovels about apologising

I'm with you Murphy....:what:

But that is exactly how the Indonesians viewed Abbott's posturing before our recent election.
Did he not have the wit to imagine the possibility that they would do the same when their election was due?

Fran, it's a zephyr in a thimble, to coin a phrase. Tony Abbott is trying to do what he promised he would, stop illegal immigration into Australia. That's what politicians should do, isn't it, keep their promises?

I'm sure there are people in many countries around the world wishing their leaders were stronger on illegal immigrants.

PS: ... and Abbott (a Rhodes Scholar) is nobody's fool.

I can't believe you Labor Limpets aren't over it yet! You are just sad.
Abbott is not a very shiny button but he's a vast improvement on the vicious and vacuous rabble who were running us into the ground.
Open the other eye and take look around, the vast majority of Australians think so too or you would have enough reps left to make up a footy team!

Firstly. Abbott's plan was fine with Bambang. Deals were being done to pour even more of our cash into his coffers to make the illegals vanish and he was grinning like a cat in a dairy. Then Snowden spilled his guts that we'd been spying on them through the auspices of the Yanks. Azif they didn't already know but when it's public knowledge it becomes a different ballgame.

Now Bambang is nobody's fool. That was little morsel he could neither resist nor afford to overlook.
He is the leader of both an Asian and Moslem Country. Both those factors demand that their leader have 'face.' Biiiig face.
He can't appear as being dictated to by a foreign power, especially the 'white trash of Asia' that they deem us to be.

Ergo he has to make a song and dance to embarrass us for as long and as hard as he can to impress his own electorate.

It's all diplomatic tossing when it comes down to it and will be solved with cash as Asian deals inevitably are.

Putting all of this at Abbott's door is simplistic to say the least. I seem to remember Rudd, or was it his alter ego Gillard, had their tail wedged firmly up their own fundamental orifice by Malaya over their particularly insultingly 'colonial' solution that was announced prior to Malaya approving it.
Don't start a Party diplomacy talent battle, Labor doesn't fare all that well at that game either. Nauru, Papua, Timor..... The idiocy of dismantling the solution that was working in the first place, where do you wanna start?

Fact. Indonesia, several months ago stated it was impossible for them to stop refugee boats leaving as they had no patrol boats to deploy. That's why were giving them a few of ours right? Luckily they haven't got them yet.

This week they announce a fleet of them has been deployed to repel us. Built 'em quick didn't they? Are we sensing lies and extortion here?

When were we ever best mates with Indonesia?? Never being the answer to save time. We might trade with them, but there's never been any love lost between us. Remember Suharto? So don't carry on as though Abbott has wrecked a great alliance or something, never was one.

They stand over us and we pay them 'protection' money (more foreign aid than is explainable for any other reason) to keep their spare millions of population at home and that's about it.

Snowden gave them an excuse to grandstand, not Abbott.

Amazing that these boats, regardless of cargo, are Indo flagged boats heading into Aust waters Illegally and Indo and SBY think that is ok.? but when we accidently cross the water line into Indo all hell breaks loose. Why? It was almost inevitable that this would happen but I think it`s far from a disaster.. Domestically the only way it could harm our Government is if they apologised too fulsomely.. let`s face it , te majority of voters want to see the boats stop.. and if it means that the Indonesians getting upset most would say (and are saying ) "who cares?" As to the relationship with Indonesia.. well let`s see what happens.. . For them it`s a bit awkward because these events just underline that they have no offective control over their southern borders.. They don`t even know what`s happening in their own waters.. There`s no doubt that we`ll shortly see the usual suspects over there jumping up and down and burning the Australian flags, but its doubtful the governments in Jackarta will want to make a big noise and advertise their own operational impotence...Indonesia made it clear after the dispute with Kevin Rudd which resulted in "strained " relations, they wanted no part of running news comments on smuggling operations which damage them internationally .. oh what to do with this mess ? They are Indonesian boats with Indonesian crews hell bent on challenging our sovereignty so life goes on !!

I can't believe you Labor Limpets aren't over it yet! You are just sad.
Who's a Labor limpet? Both parties were engaged in a race to the bottom but Tony Abbott was the winner.
Neither party has my respect over this issue.

Scott Morrison is behaving like some ridiculous Colonel Blimp with his excessive secrecy and pseudo military language.

So Smith was better 'cos he blabbed every single move the Navy made on National TV to give the gullible the false impression of 'open government' and in so doing tipped the smugglers off ??? Really?

Labor's refugee numbers, thousands more than the detention centres could handle. Liberal's score, Zero, this week anyway. Better than the 800 or so arriving every week on Labor's watch. We take more than our fair share of legal immigrants I don't see why we aren't entitled to stop illegal ones any way we can.

Anyway, Warri, why are you still awake? I'm the night owl around here, but not for much longer.

Where do you get the idea that I admire Smith any more than Ruddock or Morrison?

By legal immigrants do you mean 457 Visa holders or actual refugees? What's the formula for calculating "fair share" ?

Anyway, Warri, why are you still awake? I'm the night owl around here, but not for much longer.

I'm checking up on you, of course.
Actually, I've been to bed once and going back again shortly.
