Avalanche At Lake Tahoe.

This is the first I'm finding out about this. I wonder if this is where I heard a weather person forecast their could be the risk of an avalanche. Too bad that a life was lost...may that soul R.I.P., the family be comforted and the injured fully recover. Remy, I notice with a lot of news stories, people make the dumbest comments.

Isn't it sad what some people will state behind a computer or phone screen. Thank you for you kind comments.

I did hear this morning that the skiers were within bounds of the slopes. They were not in a unauthorized area.

A tragedy but wound up with survivors.

Could this be related to the two earthquakes California had over the last week or two? How much seismic activity around mountains.

That could have been avoided. Very poor thinking to open the lifts. It all could have been avoided. Those conditions. absolutely no go ie out in those mountains. Well thas my thought. I hear do not drive in these conditions. But we still do. Even survivalists would think twice about going out. People staying at the Hotels ect, find something fun to do (ice skate) & off the hills until the weather clears and experts know about the conditions at upper elevations if sort of a no brainer. In those conditions a skier couldn't see a tree or a cliff or a pole or another skier.

As a long time skier on the largest enthusiast web site, the general consensus of skiers today has been that the avalanche was a freak event that is always possible about resort expert terrain regardless of how thorough and careful resort personnel are opening terrain. The amount of snow on slopes as well as the amount of snow from the last storm is far below that of our large Sierra Nevada storms. These same unexpected events occasionally have happened in the past within resorts and will in the future. It goes to show one is never totally safe even inbounds at resorts so enthusiasts need to accept such just like in many other sports.

The below is a 6:21 minute Youtube TV station interview of a snowboarder actually at that scene.

Good question. Didn't hear of anything like that mentioned in news reports.
