Bank has reduced my overdraft limit

Actually, banks/financial institutions make a lot of $$$$$$ off your "float". You put money in, they loan it to others at higher interest rates. No one ever leaves their checking or savings account at "zero" for any length of time, deliberately. The bank/FI would immediately close your account if you did that.

Our bank has a minimum balance requirement, but you can get around it with direct deposit (more float!) or by linking another account (i.e., checking and savings together) for a total balance that is over the minimum required.
