Baseball- NY Yankees using new shape bat. Blast 9 homeruns in one game

I was wondering if it really is going to make a difference or if everyone just wants something to talk about. Guessing that in a month or so there should be enough power statistics all across the lineup to prove it out.

It'll be interesting to see the numbers in a few months.

I love baseball, so I'll be following this.

They were arguing in my fantasy league about the legality of it, and of course, it's perfectly legal:

The bat shall be a smooth, round stick not more than 2.61 inches in diameter at the thickest part and not more than 42 inches in length

Not all bats are the same, balance wise. Some hitters like a heavy ended bat, and some like a more balanced bat.

They hit 4 more homeruns today so that's 13 homeruns in 2 games

Yankees hit four more home runs to sweep Brewers
I was going to say that home runs make for a more boring game than a pitcher's duel. But that's only true when watching the game on TV.
When you've spent a small fortune to sit in the stadium stands, you can't possibly enjoy a pitcher's duel. But HRs are something you can appreciate.
That's why they keep trying to make HRs easier.

When I was young, I went to the game and watched Steve Carlton pitch a 2 run game. There were no distractions from the game back in the old Veteran's Stadium. There was the game and the people in seats to look at.

Now this new stadium has basically a "boardwalk" in centerfield to keep you occupied. It's a food court and people are there the entire game. It's much more interesting than the game. The only time you pay attention to the game is when the ball gets put into play.

They don't get as many people attending the games and so they don't show the game on TV unless you're paying.

I watched great baseball for years on TV for free. I'm not gonna start paying for it now.

The NY Yankees are using a different shape bat which looks like a skinny bowling pin or torpedo and hitting homeruns. They also hit 3 homeruns in a row to start the game

Torpedo-shaped bats draw attention after Yankees hit team-record 9 homers in rout of Brewers

Apparently legal under the league's bat regulations.
It wasn't the new bat that helped the Yankees, it was the lousy Brewers pitching. Their starting pitcher, played for the Yankees last year. Never liked him. Glad he's gone.

From what I've heard since the story broke demand from MLB players and others including local leagues has surged for the bat. They said they might not get the same effect as several of the Yankees because they were custom made-they determine where the player hits the ball the most and put the bulk of the bat there.

Heard on radio the bat was originally designed for slow pitch softball players. Belly bouncing beer guzzling weekend warriors started this. Which in a way makes sense.

If everyone has access to the new and improved bat does it give anyone an advantage or does it just push-up scores and statistics that distort the history of the game and the records of the men that played it. 🤔

That is the " dilemma " and from what I understand as of today no one can say 100 percent the new bat gives an advantage though batting averages would say it does .
