Scared hell outta me when I saw you description of a "Dear" being attacked, relieved to see it was actually a deer.
 
Bears galore where we live up in northern Ontario.. Where we live, is in the outskirts of the village and we are surrounded by dense forest which bears live in..
Bears around our house are common..
They are Black Bears..
It is really rare that we hear of a bear attacking a human around here.. They seem more scared of us than we are of them.. Actually it has been many many years.. Just don't feed them !!!!
Should one get out of hand and become annoying and destructive, out comes the .303 and we put an end to that one pretty quick.. We then drag the body into the forest and let the wolves, coyotes, foxes, and other animals have a feast......
