Bear invasion in our town!

They have come into town retreating from wildfires, smoke, and drought. Many people in town have apple trees but don't pick the fruit so it falls on the ground, providing a feast for the bears. They are black bears and not particularly dangerous unless cornered but so many people are scared. Just leave them alone, keep your garbage, little kids, and small animals inside

Timetrvlr lives in the vastness of B.C., Canada. There bears are wild. I have two rather tame bears in my neighborhood. I've seen them since they were cubs playing in my back yard. Yet, I've seen when they have shredded trashcans with immense strength. The don't take the top of the
can off, they just rip the side right off. Our bears are used to us, our bears regard us as back ground noise.
Now, a truly wild animal with that kind of immense strength, hungry, and threatened by you, as it gets in your path....................

When the fires are over you may have a hard time of getting rid of them, as long as the food supply holds up.

We haven't had any bears in the neighborhood for over a year now. They were hanging around after a large swath of woods was leveled for a new housing development, displacing them.

Sadly, a bear was shot here in my town a few days ago because the homeowner said he was afraid the bear was going to attack his dog. Unfortunately, the bear was a mama with two cubs. Luckily, the cubs were found and were transported to a wildlife preserve where they seem to be in good shape. They will be kept there until they are old enough to be released somewhere safer.

I like our bears, however I am not interested in hugging a bear. People seem to fall into 2 types, those who love the bears and those who hate them and have no interest in sharing the land. The haters refuse to believe that bears were here long before there was a town here.

I love them, but at a distance. It is always a thrill to see one here, but I do not try to attract them.

We have way too many bears and wolves in Wisconsin. One of our favorite lake side Forest Service campgrounds is a hiding place for doe deer giving birth right next to campers. They come to find a place where they can give birth without the wolves and bears eating their fawns. Its sad to see the deer so frightened but still trusting humans over the predators. Bears get no sympathy from me.

How incredibly sad. Humans destroy the land they live in and then shot them cause someone can’t handle it. Humans are so senseless and heartless at times. How tragic for these poor baby bears.

We had a bear who couldn't figure out how to get in our trash can, so there is a hole in the top of the lid. He managed to bite the top.

Our blackies can tear up a tightly strapped metal can with great ease

Pretty big boys
This yearling is around 400 lbs

I built a crib to slow 'em down
Give me enough time to fire off a round into the air from the 12 gauge

Got weary of picking up what they scattered
...and pounding the cans back into shape

Last night, I saw the bear crossing a lane in the development, as I was driving by. He and his brother have lived here since they were cubs. They know we don't really pose a threat to them, but they still are wary of us. And we're definitely wary of them. You don't want bears associating you with food. About 30 years ago, when I moved here, we had a lot of vacation cabins. The damn idiot renters thought it was fun to feed the bears. In September when the renters left, we had bears breaking into people's houses, looking for food. Today, almost everybody knows you don't feed the bears.

We had black bears in NW Florida. They would go to the farms that had goats or chicken. They are very smart and could unlock gates. We have them here too in Central Florida. Once in a while we hear about them entering a neighborhood and causing damages. They are losing their habitat due to heavy construction in the area. It is very sad.
