I get a newsletter in my email that highlights unique locations around the globe. Today's was about Canada's "Most Beautiful Small Towns." And my goodness, they certainly are! Very much enjoyed my virtual trip!

So question to Canadian members... have you visited any of these? Do you agree they're exceptionally beautiful? Any you'd add to the list? And last, if I'm ever fortunate enough to vacation there, which of these (or any other) magnificent off-the-beaten-path locations would you suggest?

1. Ucluelet – British Columbia
2. Victoria-by-the-Sea – Prince Edward Island
3. Mahone Bay – Nova Scotia
4. Jasper – Alberta
5. Dawson City – Yukon
6. Port Carling – Ontario

Good question Kate.

What about Banff..? Lake Louise?.. and Kelowna ?
My husband worked on Lake Louise for 6 months filming.. and hated the place..hated it all.. even the food in the restaurants.. yet when I look at it, I think it looks like heaven on Earth
Thank you, Holly... I'll check them out! I can see what a tough choice it would be for anyone wanting to visit the country!

Truly beautiful places, but built up since I've been there. Lake Louise... the lake itself is a postcard. I've skied at Banff and Lake Louise. Both 10s in my book. Add Jasper to that group. All of the Canadian Rockies are spectacular.
Yes I've seen many pictures and videos, it does look beautiful..

Port Carling is a very small town in the central part of Ontario, in the Muskoka Lakes district. In the later part of the 19th century, wealthy Canadians like the Eaton and the Massey families from Toronto and Montreal started building large "summer homes " in the Muskoka lakes country. The main access was by the railway line from Toronto that continued west to Manitoba. Today the towns in the district are year round places to live, while the lakeside properties are worth a lot of money. Port Carling sits at the narrows between 2 large lakes, with a small set of locks that allow boats to traverse the narrows.

The greater Muskoka Lakes area is a 4 season recreation area, with things to do all year long. Winter skiing, snowboarding, snow machine trails, ice skating and ice racing with studded tires. Summer brings fishing sailing and the annual Antique and Classic Boat show, with beautiful hand built mahogany cruisers and speed boats from the 30's to the 70's on the water. Lake Joe has "Millionaires Row " with 7 miles of stunning custom built mansions. Many of the owners of those homes own a float plane that they fly up from the harbor in Toronto, and land on the lake, then taxi up to their dock. A 35 minute flight, to beat the 2 hour drive by car from the city.

I've been to 3 of the mentioned places. I guess Niagara Falls is too well-known to be on
the list. Many would be surprised at how small the city of N.F., Ontario is.
Pinks...as someone who has travelled... if you didn't live in Canada as you do now, .. and still lived in Australia... , and had a friend who could only visit Canada once.. where would you suggest would be the best place for the better experience.. ?

I would have to say Australia, Hols. I've lived in different Provinces in Canada throughout my life, but for diversity, I recommend Oz. However, keep in mind that is coming from
my own personal P.O.V. Another Canuck may not feel the same as I do.

I lived in Adelaide, S. Au, Hols. Unfortunately, didn't see as much of the country as I
wanted to. Did really want to live in Melbourne, Victoria - it resonated with me more, as it was a bigger city. Sydney is beautiful (and expensive). The flora and fauna fascinated me, as did the people themselves.

Thanks pinks.... yes that's the pity of the Capital cities everywhere..all extremely Expensive..like London.. except London doesn't have the beauty of other capitals sadly..

Anyway sorry Kate for taking this off topic.. back to Canada.. (y)

Oh, you're right, @Pinky ... because I'm one of those "many." :giggle: I would have thought that Niagara Falls would be a medium to large sized touristy area!
Compared to NF New York, NF Ontario is much bigger and a lot more interesting. NF New York was an industrial center a long time ago, then the chemical plants, steel plants and such closed down, leaving a town with no commercial heart.

Niagara Falls Ontario draws visitors from all over the world. The Niagara agricultural sector is well known for their wine grapes, peaches, and other tender tree fruits, plus miles of year round green houses that produce hydroponic veggies and yes ( horrors ) marijuana . The nicest town in the area is Niagara On The Lake, just a few miles drive from downtown NF Ontario. NOTL has a strict by law that requires the owners of homes that were built in the period from 1770 to 1890 to NOT alter the outside of the home, and to maintain it in it's original look. Inside they are modern, but from the street they look period .
