I hope that I will soon be bee free. Can you imagine an infestation of bees? I have gotten rid of dozens, but have about 50 dead ones to show the exterminator and condo association mgr tomorrow morning. They've been coming in through the vents for almost a month. Thank goodness they're half dead by the time they get in, but I have had to chase a doz or so with spray. Can't determine what type bees they are, like a version of a small honeybee, but it spooks me to turn out the light at night with those pesky devils perhaps buzzing around. I've never heard of such a thing. I don't want to get up early tomorrow morning and I don't like my coffee time interrupted, but they'll be here at 7:30 and it will be worth it. Wish me luck!

Some summers we'll have a lot of Yellow-Jackets, not quite regular bumble bees. They nest in the siding edges, and will enter my basement through the chimney. They usually come indoors when the weather turns cold...then I'll see them crawling or weakly flying around. I keep my eyes peeled, to kill them asap, and keep up with them, before the cat gets to them. Like it better when they're outside for sure. I have no problem with honey bees, they're good for pollination and generally don't bother anyone. Good luck tomorrow Katybug, hope they get them all. :bee:
 

Here's a pretty concise article on nuisance bees from a beekeeping association. They can really play havoc inside walls and ceilings. If you live in a condo, no telling where they may be coming from. They could becoming from a common wall several spaces down.

Good luck on the extermination Katybug...if they find honey there grab a jar and make lots of toast!

Of course living in the woods we have a great variety of bees, hornets and wasps here. Ohno got stung last week by some wasps that had a hive close to the ground. I didn't know how many got him so I shoved a Benedryl down him and the poor little guy was out of it for most of the day. Now if even a fly comes near his rear he is haulin' a** for the porch.

I always have to remind myself when moving things around outside to be cautious of wasp and hornet nests.
Yesterday I got careless and started to move a 3 piece water fountain. When I picked up the bowl there was a red wasp nest full of wasps between the bowl and pedestal..I must have confused them because most of them flew off. Let me tell you I sat that bowl down quickly and headed to the house for the wasp spray. I was very lucky there.

Also,they can make a hive almost as fast as you can blink. Last summer we noticed a huge hive hanging on a tree by the creek. This thing was about a foot and a half around, and two feet long. It seemingly appeared overnight, as I'm sure we would have noticed it. Never went near enough to see what kind of bees or wasps were there and last winter we removed it and burnt it.

I think you're exactly right, Jill. The pros have said they think their nest is in the wall cavity, as there is no raised roof. I live in an end unit, 2nd floor, in a 5 story building. All the neighbors over me and the one under me are having the same problem, but no one else is. They're due here shortly to address the problem and I am very anxious to get the problem resolved if it can be. As another poster mentioned, I would expect to see more when cold weather comes and that is really upsetting.

Thx, Jill, I hope so too. But I'm a little ticked off since they said 7:30 and it's now almost 8:30. I didn't have to rush at all, but if it means getting rid of these darned things, it is more than worth it!

Problem solved! It was yellow jackets and we all know they are mean as the devil. My poor neighbor upstairs was infested also and is allergic to stings. She has to carry meds with her at all times or could die, so this could have been a very serious problem.

They found the nest inside a wall, destroyed it and left enough poison to last for 6 mos for those that may still be in the system, then sealed it off. The part that really pisses me off, they did this at 8:00 this morning and the jerk property management company didn't let me know 'til I just called at 10:15. I rather nicely gave him a piece of my mind! But the good news is that they're gone and I don't have to be into work til 11, so I'm good to go. Thanks for all your concern!
 
Glad your rid of them Katybug, yellow jackets are a nuisance to be sure! This season we got lucky, and there's only a few of them. Creepy when they're flying at waist-level inside the house. :eek:
